Glasgow Mayfest
Glasgow Festivals include festivals for art, film, comedy, folk music and jazz. Glasgow also hosts an annual queer arts festival in November. Unlike the Edinburgh Festival (where the main festival and fringe festivals all occur around about the same time in August), Glasgow's festivals are spread evenly across the year, therefore ensuring a continuous annual programme of events. Past festivals In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Glasgow held several Great Exhibitions. They were the International Exhibition of Science, Art and Industry in 1888, the Glasgow International Exhibition in 1901, the Scottish Exhibition of National History, Art and Industry in 1911 and the Empire Exhibition in 1938. The latter attracted 12.6 million visits, easily eclipsing the Festival of Britain (1951) or the Millennium Dome in London (2000). Glasgow Science Centre
Glasgow Science Centre is a visitor attraction located in the Clyde Waterfront Regeneration area on the south bank of the River Clyde in Glasgow, Scotland. Queen Elizabeth II opened Glasgow Science Centre on 5 July 2001. It is one of Scotland's most popular paid-for visitor attractions. It is a purpose-built science centre composed of three principal buildings: Science Mall, Glasgow Tower and an IMAX cinema. It is a registered charity under Scottish law. The Scottish tourist board, VisitScotland, awarded Glasgow Science Centre a five star rating in the visitor attraction category. As well as its main location, Glasgow Science Centre also manages the visitor centre at Whitelee Wind Farm, which opened to the public in 2009. Aye Write!
Aye Write, originally stylized as Aye Write!'','' is an annual book festival which takes place in Glasgow, Scotland in late February or early March. History The first Aye Write festival was in 2005. Originally intended to occur once every two years, Aye Write announced in 2007 that the book festival would become an annual event. In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, the festival was cancelled in 2020, and was online-only in 2021. Aye Write returned to in-person festivities in 2022. Glasgow International Comedy Festival
Glasgow International Comedy Festival is a comedy festival in Glasgow, Scotland. The comedy festival started in 2002 and is held annually in March in venues across the city. The festival is supported financially by Glasgow City Council and since 2018 has been sponsored by whisky manufacturer Whyte & Mackay. The festival is billed as the largest of its type in Europe and often has acts from all over the world perform during the festival. In 2019 the European Commission named Glasgow as the top cultural and creative city in the United Kingdom. The report citied the Comedy Festival alongside other cultural events as being integral to this status. Glasgow Film Festival
The Glasgow Film Festival is an annual film festival based in Glasgow, Scotland. The festival began in 2005. By 2015, the festival had seen audience figures top 40,000 for two consecutive years. 2008 2008's festival took place between 14–24 February and the programme included exclusive premieres as well as a Bette Davis retrospective. 2009 The 2009 event featured an Audrey Hepburn retrospective and a birthday tribute to Errol Flynn. 2010 2010's festival took place between 18–28 February. Glasgow Green
Glasgow Green is a park in the east end of Glasgow, Scotland, on the north bank of the River Clyde. Established in the 15th century, it is the oldest park in the city. It connects to the south via the St Andrew's Suspension Bridge. History In 1450, King James II granted the parkland to Bishop William Turnbull and the people of Glasgow. World Pipe Band Championships
The World Pipe Band Championships is a pipe band competition held in Glasgow, Scotland. The World Pipe Band Championships as we currently know them have been staged since 1947 although the Grade 1 Pipe Band Competition winners at the annual Cowal Highland Gathering were recognised as World Champions as far back as 1906. Although titled "The World Pipe Band Championship" this designation was made by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) without consulting any other Pipe Band Association. Even though bands around the world compete the vast majority of bands that enter are from the United Kingdom. For competitive bands, the title of World Champion is highly coveted, and this event is seen as the culmination of a year's worth of preparation, rehearsal and practice. Glasgay! Festival was a gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender arts festival in Glasgow, Scotland. From 1993 to 2014 it was part of the diversity of Glasgow's cultural scene, an annual Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Arts Festival held usually in October/November, formerly organised by GALA Scotland Ltd. Pride Glasgow
Pride Glasgow is an annual lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) pride festival held in Glasgow, Scotland. Typically around 5,000 people take part in the parade element of ''Glasgow Pride''. History ''Pride Glasgow'' was established in 2004 as ''Pride Scotia'' (Glasgow). But in 2008, the Glasgow arm of ''Pride Scotia'' announced it was splitting completely, and has since used the name Pride Glasgow. It became a corporate event in 2012 and has run annually from this time. Beginning in 2014, the organizers of Pride Glasgow have charged an admissions fee that works to "help raise money for The Pride Fund designed to support the LGBT Community in Glasgow and the West of Scotland." Merchant City Festival

The West End Festival is an annual festival in the Glasgow#West End, West End of Glasgow, Scotland. History The West End Festival in Glasgow was started in 1996 by Michael Dale as a small local festival centred on Byres Road.
