Ghosts Of The Forest (album)
''Ghosts of the Forest'' is the debut album by the band of the same name, a side project lead by Phish guitarist Trey Anastasio. The album was released on April 12, 2019 on vinyl and streaming services only. Musicians joining Anastasio on the album include Phish drummer Jon Fishman and Trey Anastasio Band bassist Tony Markellis in his last studio collaboration with Anastasio before his death in 2021. Background The "Ghosts of the Forest" name refers to three different entities: the album, which features nine songs, the project as a whole, which features the material on the album plus an additional eleven songs only performed live, and the group itself. Ghosts of the Forest was partially conceived as a tribute to Anastasio's friend Chris Cottrell, who died of adrenal cancer in January of 2018. Trey Anastasio
Ernest Joseph "Trey" Anastasio III (born September 30, 1964) is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter, best known as the lead guitarist of the rock band Phish, which he co-founded in 1983. He is credited by name as composer of 152 Phish original songs, 141 of them as a solo credit, in addition to 41 credits attributed to the band as a whole. In addition to his work with Phish, Anastasio has released 11 solo albums, and been part of several side projects including the Trey Anastasio Band, Oysterhead, Ghosts of the Forest, Phil Lesh and Friends, and Surrender to the Air. Jon Fishman
Jon Fishman (born February 19, 1965) is an American drummer known for his work with the band Phish, which he co-founded in 1983, and which was, in part, named after him. He is credited with co-writing nineteen Phish songs, eight with a solo credit. Early life Fishman was born in Philadelphia and grew up in Syracuse, New York. Fishman had a passion for the drums from an early age and emulated John Bonham, the drummer for Led Zeppelin, Bill Bruford of Yes, and Keith Moon of The Who. He went to Jamesville-Dewitt High School in a suburb of Syracuse. After graduation in 1983, he attended the University of Vermont to study engineering. ''Sigma Oasis'' is the fifteenth studio album by the American rock band Phish, released on the band's JEMP Records label on April 2, 2020. The album was recorded at their studio The Barn and was produced by the band and Vance Powell. Production ''Sigma Oasis'' was recorded over the course of one week in November 2019 at The Barn, the band's Vermont recording studio. The album was mixed at Sputnik Sound in Nashville. The album's cover is a photograph of the band members standing on the porch of The Barn, and was taken by photographer Rene Huemer. Tony Markellis (10 September 1952 – 29 April 2021) was a bassist and record producer, born in Helena, Montana, to a Turkish immigrant, Constantine Markellis, and the daughter of Greek immigrants, Victoria Carkulis, residing in Saratoga Springs, New York from 1975 until his death. Phish
Phish is an American rock band formed in Burlington, Vermont, in 1983. The band is known for musical improvisation, extended jams, blending of genres, and a dedicated fan base. The band consists of guitarist Trey Anastasio, bassist Mike Gordon, drummer Jon Fishman, and keyboardist Page McConnell, all of whom perform vocals, with Anastasio being the lead vocalist. ''Lonely Trip'' is the eleventh solo studio album from Trey Anastasio. ''Lonely Trip'' was released on July 31, 2020. The album was mixed by Bryce Goggin, and was recorded during the COVID-19 pandemic. Recording process The album was written during the COVID-19 pandemic, from March–July, 2020. Anastasio stated that the recording process of the album "felt therapeutic to write" and that he "wanted to connect with our community in some way. The unplanned nature of the recording meant I didn't have a lot of gear during this process.
