Gheorghe Popescu (8 August 1919 – 1 January 2001) was a Romanian footballer and also a manager. He played as a striker. Club career Gheorghe Popescu was born on 8 August 1919 in Bucharest, Romania, starting to play junior level football in 1928 at Gloria. He started his senior career in 1935 at Divizia B club, Sportul Studențesc București where he worked with coach Coloman Braun-Bogdan, helping the team earn promotion to the first league at the end of the 1936–37 season. He made his Divizia A debut on 12 September 1937 in Sportul's 3–0 away loss in front of Gloria Arad. The highlights of his period spent with ''The Students'' were reaching the 1939 Cupa României final in which he played all the minutes in the 2–0 loss in front of Rapid București and a third place in the league at the end of the 1939–40 season in which he scored a personal record of 14 goals. Gheorghe Popescu (footballer, Born 1967)
Gheorghe "Gică" Popescu (; born 9 October 1967) is a Romanian former professional football player who played as a defender. He notably played in La Liga where he is a former captain of FC Barcelona. He played for a string of European clubs in that period, including a four-year stint at PSV Eindhoven and winning the UEFA Cup with Galatasaray. He also played in the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, in Serie A with Lecce and in the Bundesliga with Hannover 96. In his native country he played for Universitatea Craiova, Steaua București and Dinamo București. In addition to his defensive skills, he was also capable of starting attacks deep from his own half. His tactical knowledge as a defender made him a valuable team member in top European competitions until he reached his late-thirties. Constantin "Costel" Rădulescu (5 October 1896 – 31 December 1981) was a footballer and manager from Romania who rose to prominence in the 1920s and 1930s. At one time or another Rădulescu had been associated with the Romania national team as either coach, manager or administrator within the Romanian Football Federation between 1923 and 1938. First World War activity and playing career Rădulescu served as an officer for the Romanian Army during World War I at the front in the Battle of Mărăști between 1916 and 1918 in which he had received injuries to his right arm. In 1919 he featured as a goalkeeper for the Romanian army team at the Inter-Allied Games held at the Pershing Stadium, in Paris. Camil Petrescu
Camil Petrescu (; 9/21 April 1894 – 14 May 1957) was a Romanian playwright, novelist, philosopher and poet. He marked the end of the traditional novel era and laid the foundation of the modern novel era in Romania. Life Petrescu was born in Bucharest in 1894. He lost both his parents early in life and was raised by a relative, or a nanny from the Moșilor suburb (the sources remain quite unclear on this). Petrescu went to primary school at Obor, and to high school at Saint Sava National College, where he wrote his very first poem. Being very poor, he studied assiduously, worked to support himself, and relatively late—at the age of 29—he began his studies in philosophy at the University of Bucharest.
