Ghana Men's National Field Hockey Team
The Ghana men's national field hockey team represents Ghana in men's international field hockey competitions and is controlled by the Ghana Hockey Association, the governing body for field hockey in Ghana. Ghana is ranked at 36 according to FIH Rankings (as of June 2019). Ghana participated in the Hockey World League for the first time in 2016–2017. In Round 1, they played in the African group with Kenya, Namibia and Nigeria, winning all three pool matches including a 1-0 victory over the strong Kenyan team. In Round 2, they were placed in Pool B with Sri Lanka, Egypt and China. Ghana beat only Sri Lanka, and in the quarterfinal clash, Oman stunned Ghana 4-3. In the end, Ghana finished 6th in the rankings. Trainings and matches in preparation for international tournaments are held at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra. Ghana Hockey Association
The Ghana Hockey Association is the governing body of field hockey in Ghana. It is affiliated to IHF International Hockey Federation and AHF African Hockey Federation. The headquarters of the association is in Accra, Ghana. The main hockey venue of the association is the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium (named after the former president of the Ghana Hockey Association, Theodosia Okoh) . As of 2020, Dr. Ben K.D. Asante is the President and Rita Odei Asare is the Secretary General. History The origin of Ghana Hockey Association goes back to November 1950. 2016–17 Men's FIH Hockey World League
The 2016–17 Men's FIH Hockey World League was the third edition of the men's field hockey national team league series and last season of the World League. The tournament started in April 2016 in Singapore and finished in December 2017 in Bhubaneswar, India. The Semifinals of this competition will also serve as a qualifier for the 2018 Men's Hockey World Cup as the 10/11 highest placed teams apart from the host nation and the five continental champions qualify. Australia won the tournament's Final round for a record second time after defeating Argentina 2–1 in the final match. India won the third place match by defeating Germany 2–1. From 2019 onwards, the tournament was replaced by Pro League. 2022 Men's Hockey Africa Cup Of Nations
The 2022 Men's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations was the 11th edition of the Men's Hockey Africa Cup of Nations, the quadrennial international men's field hockey championship of Africa organised by the African Hockey Federation. In February 2021 it was announced that the tournament would be held alongside the women's tournament at the Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium in Accra, Ghana from 17 to 23 January 2022. South Africa were the defending champions, winning the 2017 edition. They successfully defended their title after being Egypt in the final. The winner qualified for the 2023 Men's FIH Hockey World Cup. Qualification The top two highest-ranked teams in the FIH World Rankings qualified directly for the tournament while the other teams played in the regional qualifiers. The Theodosia Okoh Hockey Stadium is a field hockey stadium in Accra, Ghana. The stadium hosted the 2009 Hockey African Cup for Nations. China Men's National Field Hockey Team
The China men's national field hockey team represents the China in international field hockey matches and tournaments. History The team participated at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. Most of the players have traditionally been from Inner Mongolia, where the Daur people have been playing Beikou, a game similar to field hockey, for about 1,000 years. The modern game started in China in the mid 1970s. The team has since developed its talent with some overseas Chinese players became eligible to play for the team after 3 years of residence. Sri Lanka Men's National Field Hockey Team
The Sri Lanka national field hockey team represents Sri Lanka in international field hockey competitions. It is ranked as the third best nation in the South Asian region behind India, Pakistan and ranked in the world. Sri Lanka was once considered as a better side in 1970s but failed to perform well at the international level for about four decades. The field hockey team from Sri Lanka participated in the Hockey World League for the first time in their history when they took part in the 2016–17 Men's FIH Hockey World League Round 1 and they performed really well by defeating every team that they had played in pool matches. They also qualified for the finals of the Hockey World League Round 1 in the Asian category. In the finals Sri Lanka played a draw in full-time against China, with 3 goals from each team.
