Gerry Lynn
Gerard Ian Lynn (24 August 1955 – 12 June 1992) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A rover from Warragul, Lynn made his league debut in round 11 of the 1974 VFL season The 1974 VFL season was the 78th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 6 April until 28 September, and comprised a 2 ..., against North Melbourne at Arden Street and made his only other appearance of the year four weeks later at Princes Park in a win over South Melbourne. In 1975 and 1976 he broke into the seniors just once, with a strong Hawthorn team making the grand final in both seasons. He polled the second most votes in the 1975 Gardiner Medal. Warragul Football Club
The Warragul Football and Netball Club, nicknamed the ''Gulls'', is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the city of the same name in the state of Victoria. The club teams currently compete in the Gippsland League, fielding Senior, Reserve, Under 18 and Under 16 football teams, as well as A, B, C Grade and Under 17, Under 15 and Under 13 netball teams. The Hawthorn Football Club, nicknamed the Hawks, is a professional Australian rules football club based in Mulgrave, Victoria, that competes in the Australian Football League (AFL). The club was founded in 1902 in the inner-east suburb of Hawthorn, making it the youngest Victorian-based team in the AFL. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind"). During general play, players may position themselves anywhere on the field and use any part of their bodies to move the ball. The primary methods are kicking, handballing and running with the ball. The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. The 1974 VFL season was the 78th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 6 April until 28 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top five clubs. The premiership was won by the Richmond Football Club for the ninth time and second time consecutively, after it defeated by 41 points in the 1974 VFL Grand Final. Gardiner Medal
{{Use Australian English, date=January 2018 The Gardiner Medal was an Australian rules football award, formerly awarded to the best and fairest player in the VFL Reserves competition. Officially named the Seconds prior to 1959 and the Reserves from 1959 onwards, the competition ran from 1919 until 1999 and the medal was first awarded in 1926. The Medal was named in honour of Frank Gardiner, a former president of the VFL Seconds. The award was voted for by the field umpires at the conclusion of each match in the same format as used in the senior grade's Brownlow Medal. As for the Brownlow Medal, ties were originally decided on a countback of who received the most "best-on-ground" votes. Ouyen, Victoria
Ouyen is a town in Victoria, Australia, located in the Rural City of Mildura at the junction of the Calder Highway and Mallee Highway, south of Mildura, and northwest of Melbourne. At the 2016 census, the town had a population of 1,045. History The area was first occupied by the Wergaia Indigenous Australians. The name is believed to be derived from the Wergaia word "wuya-wuya", which some believe means "pink-eared duck", whilst others claim it means "ghost waterhole". The town was established around the Ouyen railway station, built in 1906 on the Mildura Line. The Post Office opened on 22 October 1907. It is also the junction for a railway line west parallel to the Mallee Highway.
