Gerrit van Wees (26 January 1913 – 5 May 1995) was a Dutch cyclist. He competed in the team pursuit event at the 1936 Summer Olympics. Heemstede
Heemstede () is a town and a municipality in the Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. It is the fourth richest municipality of the Netherlands. History Heemstede formed around the Castle ''Heemstede'' that was built overlooking the Spaarne River around 1286. Before 1296, Floris V, Count of Holland, granted Heemstede as a fiefdom to Reinier of Holy. During the 14th century, a village formed near the castle, which was destroyed and rebuilt several times in this period. A resident of this castle was Adriaan Pauw, who bought it in 1620. In 1653, Bennebroek split off from Heemstede, becoming a separate fiefdom. Growth was slow, and in 1787 Heemstede counted 196 families. Even at that early date Heemstede had already gained the reputation it has today, of being primarily a "bedroom community" for the cities of Haarlem and Amsterdam. Hoofddorp
Hoofddorp (; ) is the main town of the Haarlemmermeer municipality in the province of North Holland in the Netherlands. In 2021, the population was 77,885. The town was founded in 1853, immediately after the Haarlemmermeer had been drained. History After the draining of the Haarlemmermeer, two villages, Kruisdorp (Crossvillage) and Venneperdorp (Vennepervillage), were founded in the centre of the polder. In 1868 they were renamed to Hoofddorp and Nieuw-Vennep respectively. Hoofddorp became more prosperous than Nieuw-Vennep, and it rapidly became the most important place of the district. The men's team pursuit cycling event at the 1936 Summer Olympics took place on 6 to 8 August and was one of six events at the 1936 Olympics. Results Round 1 The top eight teams by time advanced to the second round. Bulgaria competed alone in its heat. Italy (heat 1), Denmark (heat 3), and Germany (heat 6) each briefly held the Olympic record in turn before France (heat 7) finished the round with it. The Dutch team was close to catching the American team before two riders crashed. Round 2 The teams with the four best times from the second round advanced to the semifinals. The 1936 Summer Olympics (German: ''Olympische Sommerspiele 1936''), officially known as the Games of the XI Olympiad (German: ''Spiele der XI.
