Germany were present at the Eurovision Song Contest 1998, held in Birmingham, United Kingdom. Before Eurovision Originally, Germany was relegated from the contest because of its low average score over the previous four years, however after Italy withdrew from the contest, Germany was allowed to compete. Countdown Grand Prix 1998 The national final to select their entry, ''Countdown Grand Prix 1998'', was held on 26 February 1998 at the Stadthalle Bremen, and was hosted by Axel Bulthaupt and Nena. The final decision was decided on televoting only; the top 3 were announced, but the other placings are known unofficially. Wind (band)
Wind is a German musical group that mostly plays schlager music. The band is still active, more than 30 years after its foundation. History The group was started in 1985 by the composer Hanne Haller. The members of the band at that time were Alexander "Ala" Heiler, Christiane von Kutschenbach, Rainer Höglmeier, Willie Jakob, Sami Kalifa and Petra Scheeser. The group has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest for Germany three times. The first time was shortly after the formation of the band, in Eurovision 1985. With the song "Für alle" ("For Everyone") they finished second, just behind the winning duo Bobbysocks from Norway. Peter Plate (born 1 July 1967) is a German musician, singer, songwriter and record producer. Between 1991 and 2012, he was the keyboardist and occasional vocalist of Rosenstolz, a German pop duo that had chart hits in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Early life Peter Plate was born on 1 July 1967 in New Delhi, where his grandfather was a diplomat, and came to Germany at the age of three, spending his childhood first in Hamburg and then in Goslar. He learnt to play the electronic organ during his youth and wrote a musical with friends at the age of 17. As a young adult, he moved to Braunschweig, where he did his civilian service in a retirement home. Rosenstolz () was a German pop duo from Berlin that was active between 1991 and 2012 and had chart hits in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The duo consisted of singer AnNa R. and musician Peter Plate, who occasionally provided vocals.
