Germaine Mounier
Germaine Mounier (7 February 1920 – 27 June 2006) was a 20th-century French classical pianist and music educator. Biography Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine, Mounier won First prize at the Conservatoire de Paris. She worked the piano with Yves Nat and Magda Tagliaferro. She entered the École Normale de Musique de Paris, taught in Salzbourg as well as in Bulgaria where she created a ''Concours Albert Roussel''. With pianist Hélène Boschi she formed a duet with a very vast repertoire, recording works by Mozart, Muzio Clementi, Clementi, Debussy and Busoni (disque REM). A great admirer and interpreter of Chopin, Mounier created the ''Festival Chopin'' at the Orangerie of the Parc de Bagatelle in Paris, of which she was Vice-présidente. Neuilly-sur-Seine (; literally 'Neuilly on Seine'), also known simply as Neuilly, is a commune in the department of Hauts-de-Seine in France, just west of Paris. Alexandre Tharaud (born 9 December 1968) is a French pianist. He is active on the concert stage and has released a large and diverse discography. Life and career Born in Paris, Tharaud discovered the music scene through his mother who was a dance teacher at the Opéra de Paris, and his father, an amateur director and singer of operettas. Momo Kodama
is a Japanese classical pianist. She was born in Osaka but grew up in Europe, attending the Conservatoire de Paris with older sister Mari. She made her debut in 1991 with the Berkeley Symphony Orchestra and was the youngest winner of the International Piano Competition in Munich at age 19. Since then she has performed with various symphonic orchestras and at cultural festivals in Europe and Latin America and has released a number of recordings. Background and education Kodama was born in Osaka, Japan, but spent her early years in Europe, with her family moving there in 1973 and attending school in Germany. Mari Kodama
(born 1967) is a classical pianist who has performed in Europe, North America and Japan. Background Kodama was born in Osaka, Japan in 1967 and raised in Germany and Paris, France due to her father's postings in these countries as well as Switzerland and England. She and sister Momo are daughters of a pianist mother and banker father. Their mother gave up performances for teaching and Mari assuming everyone played piano. She wanted to begin play at age 2, but her parents thought she was too young. She was able to read notes by age three. By the age of 10, she had already decided to be a concert pianist deciding not to return to Japan to prepare for university. She studied piano at the Conservatoire de Paris starting at age 14, under Germaine Mounier, and chamber music under Geneviève Joy-Dutilleux and while still a teenager, was performing in various European competitions. Claude Bolling
Claude Bolling (10 April 1930 – 29 December 2020) was a French jazz pianist, composer, arranger, and occasional actor. Biography He was born in Cannes, France, and studied at the Conservatory of Nice, Nice Conservatory, and then in Paris. A child prodigy, by the age of 14 he was playing jazz piano professionally, with Lionel Hampton, Roy Eldridge, and Kenny Clarke. Bolling's books on jazz technique show that he did not delve far beyond bebop into much avant-garde jazz. He was a major part of the traditional jazz revival in the late 1960s, and he became friends with Oscar Peterson. Caroline Sageman
Caroline Sageman (born 29 August 1973) is a French classical pianist. Biography Sageman was an precocious child: she took her first piano lessons at the age of 6 with Denyse Rivière, Marcel Ciampi's assistant and Jean-Marc Luisada teacher. At 9, with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, she performed the piano concerto in D major by Haydn at the Salle Pleyel. She entered the Conservatoire de Paris at the age of 13 in the class of Germaine Mounier. She was only seventeen when she won the 6th prize of the XII International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, making her the youngest winner of this competition since its inception. André Isoir
André Jean-Marie Isoir (20 July 1935 – 20 July 2016) was a French organist and pedagogue. Biography André Isoir was born in 1935 in Saint-Dizier in Grand Est, France. Isoir studied with Édouard Souberbielle (organ) and Germaine Mounier (piano) at the École César Franck and under Rolande Falcinelli at the Conservatoire de Paris where he won the first prizes in organ and improvisation in 1960. Thereafter he won several international organ competitions. In 1965 he won the improvisation competition in St Albans (UK). He continued his studies at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he entered the classes of Germaine Mounier (piano), Jean Hubeau (chamber music), Jeanine Rueff and Bernard de Crépy (writing).
