Ger O'Grady
Ger "Redser" O'Grady (born 1979 in Thurles, County Tipperary) is an Irish sportsperson. He plays hurling with his local club Thurles Sarsfields and is a former member of the Tipperary senior inter-county team. Ger O'Grady was born in Thurles, County Tipperary in 1979. He was educated locally and plays his club hurling with Thurles Sarsfields. He was captain of the team in 2005 when they won their first County Senior Hurling title in thirty-one years. O'Grady has played for Tipperary at minor, Under-21 & Intermediate level, winning a Munster Under-21 medal as a substitute in 1999. O'Grady made his competitive debut for the Tipperary senior hurlers in the 2003 National League against Offaly. Thurles Sarsfields GAA
Thurles Sarsfields is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "Mid-Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred in the town of Thurles at Semple Stadium. The club was founded in 1881 and is the most honoured club in the history of the county championship with 36 County Titles. Thurles (; ''Durlas Éile'') is a town in County Tipperary, Ireland. It is located in the civil parish of the same name in the barony of Eliogarty and in the ecclesiastical parish of Thurles (Roman Catholic parish), Thurles. Hurling
Hurling ( ga, iománaíocht, ') is an outdoor team game of ancient Gaelic Irish origin, played by men. One of Ireland's native Gaelic games, it shares a number of features with Gaelic football, such as the field and goals, the number of players and much terminology. The same game played by women is called camogie ('), which shares a common Gaelic root. National Hurling League
The National Hurling League is an annual Inter county, inter-county hurling competition featuring teams from Ireland and England. Founded in 1925 by the Gaelic Athletic Association, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation within the league system. The league has 35 teams divided into six divisions, with either five or six teams in each division. Promotion and relegation between these divisions is a central feature of the league. Although primarily a competition for Irish teams, teams from England – currently Lancashire GAA, Lancashire, London GAA, London and Warwickshire GAA, Warwickshire – also take part, while in the past New York GAA, New York also fielded a team for the latter stages of the league. The Offaly County Board of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) ( ga, Cumann Luthchleas Gael Coiste Uíbh Fhailí) or Offaly GAA is one of the 32 county boards of the GAA in Ireland, and is responsible for Gaelic games in County Offaly. The GAA Hurling All-Ireland Senior Championship, known simply as the All-Ireland Championship, is an annual inter-county hurling competition organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA). It is the highest inter-county hurling competition in Ireland, and has been contested every year except one since 1887. The final, currently held on the third Sunday in August, is the culmination of a series of games played during July and August, with the winning team receiving the Liam MacCarthy Cup. Benny Dunne
Benny Dunne (born 22 September 1980) is an Irish hurler who played as a midfielder for the Tipperary senior team. He joined the team in 2002 and was a regular member of the starting fifteen until his retirement in 2011. Younger brother of current selector Tommy, Dunne was a stalwart on the Tipperary team for a decade. He has won one All-Ireland winners' medal, three Munster winners' medals and one National League winners' medal. He ended up as an All-Ireland runner-up on two occasions. At club level Dunne is a two-time Munster medalist with Toomevara. In addition to this he has also won seven county club championship medals. This article lists players who have recently captained the Tipperary county hurling team in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship and the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. The captain is normally chosen from the club that has won the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship. This did not happen in 1989. In that year Loughmore Castleiney were the reigning county hurling champions but did not hold the captaincy during the championship as none of their players were deemed good enough to make the team. In 1989 therefore Pat McGrath of Loughmore Castleiney was the captain during the National Hurling League and Bobby Ryan of Borris-Ileigh was the captain during the Championship.
