Georgia In The Eurovision Song Contest 2007
Georgia debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with the song "Visionary Dream" written by Beka Jafaridze and Bibi Kvachadze. The song was performed by Sopho, who was internally selected in December 2006 by the Georgian broadcaster Georgian Public Broadcaster (GPB) to compete at the 2007 contest in Helsinki, Finland. A national final was held to select the song that Sopho would perform. An open call for song submissions was held which resulted in the shortlisting of five entries that were presented to the public during a televised production on 3 March 2007. The results of a public televote exclusively resulted in the selection of "My Story" as the Georgian entry, having received 51% of the votes. Sopho Khalvashi ( ka, სოფო ხალვაში ; born 31 May 1986 in Batumi, Adjara, Georgia), also sometimes known as simply Sopho, is a Georgian musician of Laz heritage. Biography She claimed third prize at the commercial song contest " New Wave" 2006 in Jūrmala, Latvia. She then signed a contract with Russian management agency "ARS" led by Russian composer Igor Krutoy. She returned to her homeland, where she received an offer from the Imedi TV channel to host local talent show "On Imedi's waves". It was announced on 12 December 2006 that she would represent her home nation at the Eurovision Song Contest 2007. The song " Visionary Dream" was Georgia's first entry into the contest. The song was previously called "My Story". In the semi-final on 10 May 2007, she finished eighth; as one of the Top 10 qualifiers she secured a spot for Georgia in the final. Georgia has participated in the Eurovision Song Contest 14 times, debuting at the 2007 contest. Georgia planned to participate in 2009, but decided to withdraw after the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) demanded it to re-write its song which made reference to the then-Russian prime minister, Vladimir Putin. Georgia has reached the final on seven occasions, achieving two top ten placements, with Sofia Nizharadze () and Eldrine () both finishing ninth. Sweden chose their entrants, The Ark, with the song " The Worrying Kind" for the Eurovision Song Contest 2007. Before Eurovision Melodifestivalen 2007 Sweden used a national final, Melodifestivalen 2007, which consisted of four heats on February 3, February 10, February 17, February 24; a second chance round on March 3; and the final which took place on March 10. The method of selection remained the same as previous years with 4 heats consisting of 8 songs each, with the 2 top-placing entries securing spots for the final and the 3rd and 4th place entries earning spots in the Second Chance round. Montenegro debuted in the Eurovision Song Contest 2007 with the song "'Ajde, kroči" written by Slaven Knezović and Milan Perić. The song was performed by Stevan Faddy. The Montenegrin broadcaster RTCG, Radio i televizija Crne Gore (RTCG) organised the national final ''MontenegroSong 2007'' in order to select the Montenegrin entry for the 2007 contest in Helsinki, Finland. History It started broadcasting radio in 1925, and Georgian TV started broadcasting in 1956. Today, 85% of the Georgian population receive the First Channel, and 55% receive the Second Channel. Livingston Recording Studios is a recording studio in West London. The studios were started by Ray Kinsey, a film director from North London, who branched out into recording talking books for the blind. The first Livingston Studio designed for recording music was set up in Barnet UK during 1963 where work on talking books continued alongside the recording of folk music. Kinsey's son, Nick Kinsey, joined the company in 1966. Nick Kinsey started to develop the studios continuing with the recording of folk music and branching out into pop music.
