Georgia At The Olympics
Georgia first participated at the Olympic Games as an independent nation in 1994 and has sent athletes to compete in every Summer Olympic Games and Winter Olympic Games since then. Previously, Georgian athletes competed as part of the Soviet Union at the Olympics from 1952 to 1988 and after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, Georgia was part of the Unified Team in 1992. Georgian athletes have won a total of 40 medals, mostly in wrestling, judo and weightlifting. The Georgian National Olympic Committee was created in 1989 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1993. Georgian National Olympic Committee
The Georgian National Olympic Committee (GNOC) ( ka, საქართველოს ეროვნული ოლიმპიური კომიტეტი, ''sakartvelos erovnuli olimp'iuri k'omit'et'i'') is a Georgian national constituent of the worldwide Olympic movement. It is an umbrella organization for 12 regional bodies, the Georgian Olympic Academy, the Georgian Olympians’ Association, and the Olympic Museum. 1994 Winter Olympics Medal Table
The 1994 Winter Olympics, officially known as the XVII Winter Olympics, were a winter multi-sport event held in Lillehammer, Norway, from February 12 to February 27, 1994. A total of 1,737 athletes representing 67 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) (+3 from 1992 Olympics) participated in 61 events (+4 from 1992), from 12 sports and disciplines (unchanged from 1992). These were the only Winter Olympics held two years after the prior Games, as opposed to the four year separation before and after. Continuing the break from tradition of 1992, the medals were primarily made of granite rather than metal; gold, silver, or bronze was used only on the border, the Olympic rings, and a pictogram of the sport for which the medal was awarded. This was a list of results of all athletes who qualified for the Olympics and were nominated by the Georgian National Olympic Committee.
