George Watson (cricketer, Born 1855)
George Watson (1855 – 23 November 1884) was a New Zealand cricketer who played first-class cricket for Canterbury from 1881 to 1884. In his first match he scored the first century in New Zealand first-class cricket. Early life and career Watson was born in Bombay, the third son of the Rev. Thomas Watson, who was senior chaplain in the Bombay Presidency. His younger brother, Francis Watson (born on Saint Helena in 1860), also played first-class cricket, appearing in a single New Zealand domestic match for a West Coast team. After moving to Christchurch, George Watson began representing Canterbury in non-first-class matches in 1877, and toured Victoria and Tasmania with the Canterbury team in 1878-79. Hagley Oval
Hagley Oval is a cricket ground in Hagley Park in the central city of Christchurch, New Zealand. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1867, when Canterbury cricket team hosted Otago cricket team. Canterbury used the ground infrequently from then through until the 1920s, but hardly stopped during World War I. The first match in the Plunket Shield was played there in December 1907, when Canterbury played Auckland. Canterbury returned there in 1979, and played a number of their 1993/94 Shell Cup home matches at the ground. The Tasmanian cricket team, nicknamed the Tigers, represents the Australian state of Tasmania in cricket. Auckland Cricket Team
The Auckland cricket team represent the Auckland region and are one of six New Zealand domestic first class cricket teams. Governed by the Auckland Cricket Association they are the most successful side having won 28 Plunket Shield titles, ten wins in The Ford Trophy and the Super Smash four times. The side currently play their home games at Eden Park Outer Oval. The limited overs side, known as the Auckland Aces, have a predominantly light blue kit with a navy and white trim. Their One Day Championship shirt sponsors are Ford whilst their major T20 sponsor is Mondiale. ''The New Zealand Herald'' is a daily newspaper published in Auckland, New Zealand, owned by New Zealand Media and Entertainment, and considered a newspaper of record for New Zealand. Charlie Frith
Charlie Frith (19 January 1854 – 3 April 1919) was an English-born New Zealand cricketer who played first-class cricket for Canterbury and Otago between 1877 and 1890. Life and career Charlie Frith's family moved from England to New Zealand in 1867. William Frith (New Zealand Cricketer)
William Frith (26 June 1856 – 19 November 1949) was an English-born New Zealand first-class cricketer who played fifteen matches for Canterbury, Otago and Wellington between 1877 and 1894. Frith was principally an accurate left-arm bowler, but he was also a useful middle-order batsman "with a style of his own", and one of the most brilliant fieldsmen in New Zealand. In 1880–81 he took 8 for 18 for Canterbury against Otago. In 1889–90 he took four wickets in each innings and made 46 in Wellington's victory over Auckland when nobody else in the match exceeded 30. He bowled successfully against touring Test teams, taking three wickets cheaply for Canterbury against the 1878 Australians and five wickets for Otago against the 1882 English team. 2017–18 Plunket Shield Season
The 2017–18 Plunket Shield was the 89th season of the Plunket Shield, the domestic first-class cricket competition in New Zealand. The competition started on 23 October 2017 and finished on 5 April 2018. Canterbury were the defending champions. The round eight fixture between Canterbury and Auckland at the Mainpower Oval in Rangiora was called off due to an unsafe pitch. The umpires abandoned the game after only three balls were bowled on day three of the match. The Central Stags, formerly known as Central Districts, are a first-class cricket team based in central New Zealand. They are the men's representative side of the Central Districts Cricket Association. They compete in the Plunket Shield first-class competition, The Ford Trophy domestic one-day competition and the Men's Super Smash Twenty20 competition. Brad Schmulian
Bradley Dean Schmulian (born 3 August 1990) is a New Zealand cricketer who plays for Central Districts cricket team, Central Districts. Early life He was born in Cape Town, South Africa, and moved to New Zealand at the age of nine. Schmulian was awarded the Auckland Cricket Association Men's Player of the Year in 2011/12, 2012/13 and 2015/16. He made a move to Hawke’s Bay from Auckland in November 2016 when he was not getting the opportunity in the Auckland cricket provincial setup.
