George Stewart (American Football)
George Stewart (born December 29, 1958) is an American football coach who is most recently the assistant head coach and offensive analyst for the Los Angeles Chargers of the National Football League (NFL). He was a coach in the NFL since 1989 after spending a few years coaching in the college ranks. He spent ten years coaching wide receivers for the Minnesota Vikings. In 2017 he became the assistant head coach and special teams coordinator for the San Diego Chargers. College coaching Stewart began coaching in 1983 as a graduate assistant at Arkansas, working under his former head coach from his playing years at Arkansas, Lou Holtz. Stewart followed Holtz to the University of Minnesota the following year, becoming the team’s offensive line coach. In 1986, Stewart would follow Holtz once again this time to Notre Dame to become the team’s linebackers coach. The Los Angeles Chargers are a professional American football team based in the Los Angeles metropolitan area. The Chargers compete in the National Football League (NFL) as a member of the American Football Conference (AFC) West division, and play their home games at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California, which they share with the Los Angeles Rams. The Chargers were founded in Los Angeles in 1959, and began play in 1960 as a charter member of the American Football League (AFL). Fiesta Bowl
The Fiesta Bowl is an American college football bowl game played annually in the Phoenix metropolitan area. From its beginning in 1971 until 2006, the game was hosted at the Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe, Arizona. Since 2007, the game has been played at the State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Since 2022, it has been sponsored by Vrbo and officially known as the Vrbo Fiesta Bowl. Minnesota Golden Gophers
The Minnesota Golden Gophers (commonly shortened to Gophers) are the college sports teams of the University of Minnesota. The university fields a total of 25 (12 men's, 13 women's) teams in both men's and women's sports and competes in the Big Ten Conference. Lou Holtz
Louis Leo Holtz (born January 6, 1937) is an American former football player, coach, and analyst. He served as the head football coach at The College of William & Mary (1969–1971), North Carolina State University (1972–1975), the New York Jets (1976), the University of Arkansas (1977–1983), the University of Minnesota (1984–1985), the University of Notre Dame (1986–1996), and the University of South Carolina (1999–2004), compiling a career record of 249–132–7. Holtz's 1988 Notre Dame team went 12–0 with a victory in the Fiesta Bowl and was the consensus national champion. Holtz is the only college football coach to lead six different programs to bowl games and the only coach to guide four different programs to the final top 20 rankings. After retiring from coaching, Holtz worked as a TV college football analyst for CBS Sports in the 1990s and ESPN from 2005 until 2015. 1983 Arkansas Razorbacks Football Team
The 1983 Arkansas Razorbacks football team represented the University of Arkansas during the 1983 NCAA Division I-A football season. Ron Faurot received first-team All-American honors as a defensive lineman for the Hogs. After the season in mid-December, Arkansas athletic director Frank Broyles asked Lou Holtz to resign after seven years as head coach, partly because of the team's decline, but also due to political statements made by Holtz earlier in the year. Holtz decided to resign rather than be fired, and went to Minnesota. The San Diego Chargers were a professional American football team that played in San Diego from 1961 until the end of the 2016 season, before relocating to Los Angeles, where the franchise had played its inaugural 1960 season.
