George Smith (footballer, Born 1910)
George Smith (born 1910, date of death unknown) was a Welsh professional footballer who played as a left half back in the Football League for Bradford City, Newport County and Bournemouth. Career Born in Connah's Quay, Wales, Smith began his career in his hometown, playing for Connah's Quay Football Club. He was signed by Football League side Bristol City, before joining London-based Thames in 1930, where he made 73 appearances. He moved to Bradford City in 1932, where he made his league debut in which was to be his only appearance for the Bradford in one year at Valley Parade. He returned to Wales with Newport County in 1933, making four appearances. He once again moved on, this time to Wolverhampton Wanderers, and then to Bournemouth, where he would make 16 appearances. He transferred to Bath City after leaving Bournemouth, but would later team up with former Bath manager Ted Davis at newly formed Southern League rivals Colchester United in 1937. After signing ... Connah's Quay
Connah's Quay ( cy, Cei Connah), known locally as "The Quay" and formerly known as Wepre, is a town and community in Flintshire, lying within the Deeside conurbation along the River Dee, near the border with England. It is the largest town in Flintshire. It is located west of Chester and can be reached by road from the A548, by rail from the nearby Shotton railway station, and also is on the National Cycle Network Route 5. It also lies just south of Deeside Industrial Park, one of the largest such complexes in the region. The major part of Tata steelworks is also on the town's border on the north bank of the River Dee. Wepre Woods, an ancient woodland in the town, is controlled by Flintshire County Council's Ranger Service and includes Ewloe Castle which dates from the 13th century. Alexander George Cheyne (28 April 1907 – 5 July 1983) was a Scottish footballer who played as an inside forward. He is reputed to have been responsible for the Hampden Roar following his goal in the 'Cheyne International' of 1929. Playing career Aberdeen Cheyne began as a professional for Aberdeen, signing in 1925 from Shettleston Juniors.
