George Shaw (footballer, Born 1886)
George "Yorkie" Shaw (1 April 1886 – 30 April 1971) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Fitzroy in the Victorian Football League (VFL) during the 1910s. Football At 164 cm, rover George Shaw was one of the smallest players in the game's history and kicked two goals in their 1913 Grand Final win against St Kilda. He also played in their premiership side in 1916, retiring in 1920 after playing 117 games for Fitzroy. Following an unsuccessful pre-season trial with Richmond in 1922, Shaw took a position on the VFL field umpires list. Umpiring primarily in the Peninsula Football Association through 1922 and 1923, he was selected to umpire two VFL matches in August 1923, making his debut as a substitute for umpire Bob Scott, who was ill. Bob Scott (umpire)
Robert H. Scott (1901 – 4 August 1956) was a leading Australian rules football field umpire in the Victorian Football League (later renamed to Australian Football League) in the 1920s and 1930s. Scott umpired irregularly until the 1929 season during which he became an automatic weekly selection, and remained so until he retired. He holds the record of seven successive VFL Grand Finals (1929–1935) as field umpire. He umpired a total of 157 VFL games during his career from 1921–1935, including 19 Finals games. The ''Australasian Post'', commonly called the ''Aussie Post'', was Australia's longest-running weekly picture magazine. History and profile Its origins are traceable to Saturday, 3 January 1857, when the first issue of ''Bell's Life in Victoria and Sporting Chronicle'' (probably best known for Tom Wills's famous 1858 Australian rules football letter) was released. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020.
