George William Russell (; born 15 February 1998) is a British racing driver who competes in Formula One for Mercedes-Benz in Formula One, Mercedes. Russell has won Formula One Grands Prix across seven seasons. Born and raised in King's Lynn, Russell began competitive kart racing aged seven. After a successful karting career—culminating in back-to-back victories at the KF3, junior direct-drive Karting European Championship in 2011 and 2012—Russell graduated to junior formulae. He won his first title at the 2014 BRDC Formula 4 Championship, 2014 BRDC F4 Championship. He then won the 2017 GP3 Series and the 2018 FIA Formula 2 Championship back-to-back with ART Grand Prix, ART, becoming the fifth driver to win the GP2 Series, GP2/FIA Formula 2 Championship, Formula 2 championship in their rookie season and the second driver to win both titles in their respective rookie seasons. Lorenzo Bandini Trophy
The Lorenzo Bandini Trophy () is an annual award honouring an individual or team for their achievements in Formula One motor racing. The award, named after the Italian driver Lorenzo Bandini, who died three days after suffering severe burns in a major accident at the , was established by Francesco Asirelli and Tiziano Samorè of the Brisighella commune in 1992. The trophy, a ceramic replica of Bandini's Ferrari 312/67 car adorned with the number 18 created by the ceramist Goffredo Gaeta, is awarded for "a commendable performance in motorsport." This is not based on race results, but on how the success was achieved, as well as the recipient's character and approach to racing. The FIA Formula 2 Championship (F2) is a second-tier single-seater championship organized by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA). GP2 Series
The GP2 Series was a form of open wheel motor racing introduced in 2005 following the discontinuation of the long-term Formula One feeder series, Formula 3000. The GP2 format was conceived by Bernie Ecclestone and Flavio Briatore, while Ecclestone also has the rights to the name GP1. The series was organized by Bruno Michel. In 2010, the GP3 Series class was launched, as a feeder class for the GP2 series. In 2017, the series was rebranded as the FIA Formula 2 Championship. ART Grand Prix is a French motor racing team that competes in formula single-seaters in Europe. In 2012, it competed in the GP2 Series and GP3 Series as Lotus GP to reflect sponsorship from British sports and racing car manufacturer Lotus. The team competed as Lotus ART in 2011.
