George David Payne (1853–1916) was an Australian architect. He worked for a short time in the Public Works Department in Queensland, alongside John Smith Murdoch and Thomas Pye in a time when the Department was producing a considerable amount of high quality works. Personal life George David Payne was born in 1853 in London, England to George David Payne, a distiller, and Eliza Grant. He received his training as an architect in London. In c.1887 Payne emigrated, settling in Sydney. He was a foundation member of the Sydney Architectural Association and its inaugural vice-president in 1891–93. George Payne (c.1685 – 23 January 1757) was an English official of the Exchequer and Freemason. Life He was the son of Samuel Payne of Chester and Frances Kendrick or Kenrick.baptised Holy Trinity, Chester, 12 May 1687 He was appointed Secretary to the Tax Office 20 July 1732, Head Secretary 8 April 1743 Payne became the second Grand Master of the Premier Grand Lodge of England in 1718. George Payne (3 April 1803 Sulby – 2 September 1878 Mayfair), was an English breeder of thoroughbred horses, an inveterate gambler, a patron of the Turf and a Master of the Hunt. Biography Payne was orphaned while still a young boy when his father was shot dead in a duel. Being the eldest son he inherited Sulby Hall. Sulby Hall was located southwest of Market Harborough in Northamptonshire, was constructed in 1792 for his grandfather, Rene Payne, a partner in the banking firm of ''Smith, Payne and Lepper'', and was designed by John Soane. It was bought by the Hon. Frederick William Child Villiers, son of George Child Villiers, 5th Earl of Jersey, in 1849, having been hired between 1847 & 1849 by the Duke of Montrose, and was demolished in 1949. George Clark Payne (17 February 1887 – 1932) was an English professional footballer who played as an inside left. He is mostly noted for his two years in the Southern League with Crystal Palace. Payne also played for Football League clubs Sunderland and Woolwich Arsenal and in the Southern League for Tottenham Hotspur and Leyton. Career Payne joined Southern League First Division club Tottenham Hotspur in 1906 and stayed with the club until its election to the Football League in 1908. Following two seasons back in the Southern League with Crystal Palace, for whom he scored prolifically, he transferred to First Division club Sunderland in 1911. After just two appearances, Payne returned to the Southern League with Leyton in January 1912. He made a return to the First Division during the 1912 off-season with Woolwich Arsenal. George Spencer Payne (25 March 1850 – 17 July 1892) was an English cricketer. He was born at East Grinstead, Sussex. Payne made a single first-class appearance for Sussex against Kent in 1869 at the Higher Common Ground, Tunbridge Wells. Kent won the toss and elected to bat first, making 116 all out. In response, Sussex made 152 all out in their first-innings, with Payne being run out during it for a duck. Kent then made an improved 304 all out in their second-innings, during which Payne bowled four wicketless overs, to set Sussex 268 for victory.
