Brigadier General George Mortimer Morris CB DSO (1871–1954) was a senior British Indian Army officer during the First World War. Biography Born on 22 August 1871, George Mortimer Morris was educated at Bedford School. He received his first commission as a Second Lieutenant in the Devonshire Regiment in 1890, and was promoted to the rank of Captain in the British Indian Army in 1901. He served in Mesopotamia during the First World War, between 1914 and 1918, where he was Commander of the 55th Indian Brigade. Brigadier General George Mortimer Morris was appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order in 1917, and as a Commander of the Order of the Bath in 1919. Lieutenant-Colonel The Hon. George Henry Morris (16 July 1872 – 1 September 1914) was the first commanding officer to lead an Irish Guards battalion into battle. Early life George Henry Morris was born in Spiddal, County Galway, Ireland, the second son of Michael Morris, 1st Baron Killanin, and was educated at The Oratory School, Edgbaston. He joined The Rifle Brigade in India as Second Lieutenant in 1892, after having passed from the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Military career In 1897 Morris was appointed Adjutant of the 3rd Battalion The Rifle Brigade, a position he held for four years. He saw active service with the Tochi Valley Expeditionary Force in 1897–98, receiving the medal with clasp. George Franklin Morris (April 13, 1866 – March 25, 1953) is a former United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire. Education and career George Franklin Morris was born in Vershire, Vermont on April 13, 1866. He read law to enter the bar in 1891. He married Lula J. Aldrich on May 16, 1894, and they had one son. He was in private practice in Lisbon, New Hampshire from 1891 to 1906, and in Lancaster, New Hampshire from 1906 to 1921. George Morris (1903–1997) was an American writer and labor editor for the CPUSA ''Daily Worker'' newspaper who left a body of written work and oral history that documents militant trade unionism as part of American labor history during the first half of the 20th century – including the 1934 West Coast waterfront strike. Sir George Lockwood Morris, 8th Baronet (29 January 1859 - 23 November 1947) was a Welsh industrialist and iron founder. He was also an international rugby union forward who won five caps for Wales. Life and work With Nathaniel Parker Willis, he co-founded the daily ''New York Evening Mirror''Sova, Dawn B. ''Edgar Allan Poe: A to Z''. New York: Checkmark Books, 2001: 160. by merging his fledgling weekly ''New-York Mirror'' with Willis's ''American Monthly'' in August 1831. George Augustus Morris, Jr. (March 19, 1931 – December 10, 2007) was an American football player. Born in Vicksburg, Mississippi, he played college football for the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets and professionally for the San Francisco 49ers for one season in 1956. Morris was an academic All-American and a member of the 1952 Georgia Tech National Championship team. His pro career was delayed by service in the US Army during Korea. After leaving football he worked for the Georgia Power Company, the Royal Crown Cola Company and Georgia Morris and Associates. He worked with the Southeastern Conference for thirty years and was actively involved in the Chic-Fil-A Bowl and Scholar Athlete Selection Committee and the Bobby Dodd Coach of the Year Foundation.
