George Mitchell School is a coeducational all-through school located in Leyton in London, England. It is attended by students who mainly live in the local area, with some from further afield. Private George Allan Mitchell VC (30 August 1911 – 24 January 1944) was an English recipient of the Victoria Cross, the highest and most prestigious award for gallantry in the face of the enemy that can be awarded to British and Commonwealth forces. George Francis Mitchell, (15 October 1912 – 25 November 1997) was an Irish geologist and naturalist. He was generally known as Frank Mitchell. Career He was born in Dublin, the son of David William Mitchell, a merchant, and his wife Frances Elizabeth Kirkby. He was educated at the High School in Dublin then studied Natural Sciences at Trinity College, Dublin, where he graduated BA. He was later awarded M.Sc (1935) and M.A. (1937). He became Assistant to the Professor of Geology, Knud Jessen, in 1934 and under his guidance carried out field studies of post-glacial sediments in Ireland. His lifetime interest, however, was in integrating the various disciplines in the study of the Irish natural environment and he developed interests in fields such as botany and archaeology. George Hoole Mitchell FRS FRSE FGS CBE (1902-1976) was a British geologist. He won the Geological Society of London's Bigsby Medal in 1947. He was Assistant Director of the Geological Survey of Great Britain from 1959 to 1967. The Revd George Mitchell was a missionary priest of the Anglican Church serving in the Free State (province), Free State, South Africa, from 1864, and afterwards at Kimberley, Northern Cape, Kimberley, who pioneered early translation of liturgical Epistles and Gospels and portions of the Book of Common Prayer into Setswana. He was born near Mintford in England in 1835 and died in Kimberley, South Africa. George Mitchell (trade Unionist)
George Mitchell (6 February 1827 – 24 January 1901) was a British stonemason, who became prominent in the National Agricultural Labourers' Union. Mitchell was born in Montacute in Somerset and began working when he was five years old, as a crow scarer. He later became a stonemason, following his father's trade, and proved highly successful. In time he moved to London, and began trading in marble, eventually becoming wealthy. Despite his wealth and location, Mitchell remained sympathetic to the agricultural labourers he had worked with in his youth. Initially, he was suspicious of trade unions, but he became enthusiastic after discovering that many of their leaders shared his Methodist faith. As a result, he was enthusiastic when the National Agricultural Labourers' Union (NALU) was established, and in June 1872 he was a founder of its Somerset District. George Deane Mitchell (30 August 1894 – 11 January 1961) was an Australian politician and an Independent member of the New South Wales Legislative Assembly for a single term between 1941 and 1944. Early life Mitchell was born in Caltowie near Jamestown, South Australia and was the son of a railway porter. He was educated in Adelaide and worked as a clerk in Therbarton until 1914. Mitchell enlisted in the First Australian Imperial Force at the outbreak of World War One and served in the Middle East and France between 1914 and 1919. He reached the rank of Lieutenant and was awarded the Military Cross and Distinguished Conduct Medal.
