George Marriott
George Henry Marriott (5 September 1886 – 24 September 1964) was a member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Marriott was born in Brooyar, Queensland, the son of George Henry Marriott Snr and his wife Helen (née McKay). He received his education at Kholo State School and subsequently worked at the Brisbane City Council power station after completing his education. On 23 July, 1910, he married Annie Julia Olufson (died 1960) with whom he had four daughters. Electoral District Of Bulimba
Bulimba is an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. The electorate covers the inner eastern suburbs of Brisbane. It is bounded on the north and the west by the Brisbane River and, as at the 2009 election, covers the suburbs of Bulimba, Balmoral, Cannon Hill, Hawthorne, Morningside, Norman Park, Murarrie and Seven Hills. The boundaries have changed relatively little since 1923; prior to that, the boundaries extended as far east as Wynnum and as far south-east as Mount Gravatt and Cleveland. History Bulimba has existed continuously since the 1873 election, originally covering most of the outer south-east of Brisbane. Since the 1923 redistribution, Bulimba has strongly supported Labor. Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 29 April 1950 to elect the 75 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The Labor government was seeking its seventh continuous term in office since the 1932 election; it would be Premier Ned Hanlon's second election. It is named after Thomas Curson Hansard (1776–1833), a London printer and publisher, who was the first official printer to the Parliament at Westminster. Origins Though the history of the ''Hansard'' began in the British parliament, each of Britain's colonies developed a separate and distinctive history. Before 1771, the British Parliament had long been a highly secretive body. The official record of the actions of the House was publicly available but there was no record of the debates. The publication of remarks made in the House became a breach of parliamentary privilege, punishable by the two Houses of Parliament. Electoral District Of Enoggera
Enoggera was an Queensland Legislative Assembly electoral districts, electoral district of the Legislative Assembly of Queensland, Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland. It existed from 1873 to 1950 and centred on the suburb of Enoggera, Queensland, Enoggera in Brisbane. The electorate was created by the Electoral Districts Act of 1872. From 1873 to 1878 it returned a single member. From 1878 to 1888 it became a dual member constituency (returning two members). From 1888 to 1950 it reverted to returning a single member. George Cuthbert Taylor
George Cuthbert Taylor (14 February 1886 – 2 January 1957) was a shearer and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Taylor was born in Victorian seaside town of Warrnambool, to parents William Walker Taylor and his wife Isabella (née Drever). His family was impoverished due to his father's drinking. He attended Hamilton State School until 1898 whereupon he began his working life, eventually becoming a shearer, working across Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Queensland. He joined the AWU in 1902, eventually becoming an organiser for the union in Adelaide from 1909 until 1911. 1912 saw him working as a miner in Ballarat and Broken Hill and in 1914 he served in the AIF including at Gallipoli where he was wounded and subsequently discharged in 1915. 1938 Queensland State Election
Elections were held in the Australian state of Queensland on 2 April 1938 to elect the 62 members of the state's Legislative Assembly. The Labor government of Premier William Forgan Smith was seeking a third term in office. During the previous term, the Country and United Australia parties had emerged from the united Country and Progressive National Party, which had represented conservative forces for over a decade. The most notable feature of the election campaign was the Protestant Labor Party, established in 1937, which claimed that the Forgan Smith Ministry was disproportionately Catholic and made extravagant claims that three-quarters of all police and public servants in the State were Catholic. Despite the campaign, Labor only lost one seat, Kelvin Grove, to the party.
