George MacDonald
George MacDonald (10 December 1824 – 18 September 1905) was a Scottish author, poet and Christian Congregational minister. He was a pioneering figure in the field of modern fantasy literature and the mentor of fellow writer Lewis Carroll. In addition to his fairy tales, MacDonald wrote several works of Christian theology, including several collections of sermons. His writings have been cited as a major literary influence by many notable authors including Lewis Carroll, W. H. Auden, David Lindsay, J. M. George Macdonald (archaeologist)
Sir George Macdonald (30 January 1862 – 9 August 1940) was a British archaeologist and numismatist who studied the Antonine Wall. Life Macdonald was born in Elgin on 30 January 1862. His father, James Macdonald, was a schoolmaster at Elgin Academy and his mother was Margaret Raff. His father moved from Elgin Academy to Ayr Academy during his early youth. Macdonald was educated at Ayr Academy where his father had become rector. He studied in Germany and France, then at the University of Edinburgh and Balliol College, Oxford, graduating Master of Arts in 1887. He then took up a post teaching Classics at Kelvinside Academy. In 1892 he began lecturing in Greek at Glasgow University as Gilbert Murray's assistant. At this time he lived at 21 Lilybank Gardens in Glasgow. Macdonald was involved in archaeological excavations from 1902, when he excavated Bar Hill Fort with Alexander Park. George MacDonald (game Designer)
George MacDonald is a game designer who has worked primarily on role-playing games and in the computer game industry. Career George MacDonald started work on role-playing games while at college, by adding more detailed super powers to Gamescience's '' Superhero: 2044'' RPG (1977) and ultimately creating his own original system which Steve Peterson typed up, and which eventually became the superhero RPG, ''Champions'' (1981). MacDonald and Peterson had only enough money to print 1,500 copies of the game and hand-collated the pages, and they sold their new game at Pacific Origins 1981; they were surprised to see it sell very well, selling 1,000 of their 1,500 copies at the convention. After this early success, MacDonald and Peterson started Hero Games as a publishing label. Lieutenant-General George Ehelbert Cornell Macdonald CMM, CD (born c. 1950) was Vice Chief of the Defence Staff of the Canadian Forces. Military career Educated at the University of Calgary, Macdonald joined the Canadian Forces in 1966 and served as an operational fighter pilot. He held posts in Germany and Norway. He became Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the North American Aerospace Defense Command in 1997 and Vice Chief of the Defence Staff in 2001 before retiring in 2004. George James MacDonald (Commissioner Of Crown Lands)
George James MacDonald (12 May 1805 − 21 December 1851) was a Commissioner of Crown Lands in the British colony of New South Wales where he founded both the city of Armidale and the town of Balranald. He is mostly remembered for his role in leading a contingent of Border Police troopers in a large massacre of Indigenous Australians in the Clarence River region. MacDonald was also considered a talented linguist and writer, producing several published works of poetry and prose reflecting on his experiences in Australia. Early life MacDonald was born in Holborn, London on 12 May 1805. He was the eldest son of Major James MacDonald of the British Army and was educated at Blundell's School in Tiverton, Devon. George Ranald Macdonald (4 October 1891 – 13 December 1967) was a New Zealand farmer and historian. He compiled the ''G R MacDonald Dictionary of Canterbury Biographies'', a collection of 12,000 biographies held by the Canterbury Museum. The entire dictionary has been digitised and is available through Canterbury Museum's website. Biography Macdonald was born in the Christchurch suburb of St Albans in 1891. His parents were Gertrude Gould and Ranald Macintosh Macdonald, and George Gould was his uncle. He attended school at French Farm on Banks Peninsula, and Christ's College in Christchurch. He was then sent to study history at Christ Church College at the University of Oxford in England, from where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1912, and a Master of Arts in 1919. He was a qualified lawyer but rarely practised in that profession. George William McDonald
George William McDonald (November 20, 1875 – April 6, 1950) was a politician in Manitoba, Canada. He served in the Legislative Assembly of Manitoba from 1915 to 1922 as a member of the Manitoba Liberal Party, and later sat in the House of Commons of Canada from 1935 to 1940 as a Liberal-Progressive. McDonald was born in Lucknow, Ontario, the son of Donald McDonald and Mary McKenzie, and was educated in Kincardine. After completing his schooling, he taught school in Kinloss. He later moved to Manitoba, and worked as an agricultural implement dealer and insurance agent in Boissevain. In 1914, he married Jennie M. Taylor. He first sought election to the Manitoba legislature in the 1914 campaign, but lost to Conservative incumbent James Johnson by 62 votes.
