George L. Allen
George Littleton Allen (1811-1882) was High Constable of Toronto from 1847 to 1852 and Governor of the Toronto Jail from 1852 to 1872. Allen was born to a Protestant family in Sligo, Ireland, United Kingdom, and emigrated to New York at the age of 15 before moving to Toronto. Don Jail
The Don Jail was a jail in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, located to the east of the Don River, on Gerrard Street East in the Riverdale neighbourhood. The original building was completed in 1864 and was reopened in 2013 to serve as the administrative wing of Bridgepoint Active Healthcare, a rehabilitation hospital located adjacent to the jail. Prior to its adaptive reuse as part of a healthcare facility, the building was used as a provincial jail for remanded offenders and was officially known as the Toronto Jail. George Kingsmill
George Kingsmill (1808–1852) was the High Constable of Toronto in 1835 and from 1837 to 1846. Kingsmill was born in Queen's County, Ireland. He joined the British Army and, after being decommissioned, settled in Toronto in 1829 and ran a provision store on Market Street where he supplied sailing vessels and steamers passing through the city's port. He was appointed High Constable in 1835, was succeeded by James Stitt in 1836 and was then re-appointed to the position in 1837. In 1835, he was appointed the second High Constable of Toronto, however, he was the first to not also be the city's only constable.
