George Johnston (Australian Footballer)
George Henry Johnston (12 February 1877 – 11 August 1945) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Carlton in its first-ever match (1897) in the Victorian Football League (VFL) competition, and with Prahran in its first-ever match (1899) in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) competition. Family The son of John Johnston (1836-1888), and Susannah Johnston (1844-1914), née Knight, George Henry Johnston was born in Sandridge, Victoria on 12 February 1877. He married Edith Florence Button (1873-1933) in 1900. They had four children.Service Record. 1897 VFL Season
The 1897 VFL season was the inaugural season of the Victorian Football League (1897–1989), Victorian Football League (VFL), the new highest-level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured eight clubs, ran from 8 May until 4 September, and comprised a 14-game home-and-away season followed by a 1897 VFL finals series, finals series featuring the top four clubs. The new league was established when eight clubs from the Victorian Football Association – , , , , , , and – seceded at the end of 1896 VFA season, 1896. The Royal Hobart Hospital is a public hospital in the Hobart CBD, Tasmania, Australia. The hospital also functions as a teaching hospital in co-operation with the University of Tasmania. The hospital's research facilities are known as the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation. Also close to the hospital site is the Menzies Research Institute. Toorak Park
Toorak Park is a cricket and Australian rules football arena in the Melbourne suburb of Armadale, Victoria, Australia. It is the home ground of the Prahran Football Club and Old Xaverians Football Club of the Victorian Amateur Football Association (VAFA) and Prahran Cricket Club, which plays in the Victorian Premier Cricket competition. The current capacity of the venue is 15,000. Toorak Park opened in 1893 when it was used by Hawksburn Cricket Club (later Prahran). The Prahran Football Club in the Victorian Football League, Victorian Football Association began home matches at the venue in 1899, and used it as its home base until it left the Association after 1994. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Richmond joined the Victorian Football League (now known as the AFL) in 1908 and has since won 13 premierships, most recently in 2020. Richmond's headquarters and training facilities are located at its original home ground, the Punt Road Oval, which sits adjacent to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), the club's playing home since 1965. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Points are scored by kicking the oval ball between the central goal posts (worth six points), or between a central and outer post (worth one point, otherwise known as a "behind").
