George Jeffery (cricketer)
George Ernest Jeffery (9 February 1853 – 8 April 1891) was an English cricketer active from 1872 to 1874 who played for Sussex. He was born in Eastbourne and died in Streatham Common. He appeared in 31 first-class matches as a righthanded batsman who bowled roundarm slow. He scored 808 runs with a highest score of 127 and took 68 wickets with a best performance of eight for 44. Jeffery was educated at Rugby School and Trinity College, Cambridge. He was admitted to Lincoln's Inn in 1873 before graduating LLB in 1875. George Jeffery (politician)
George Edward Jeffery (5 September 1920 – 24 July 1989) was an Australian politician who served as a Labor Party member of the Legislative Council of Western Australia from 1956 to 1962, representing Suburban Province. Jeffery was born in Tumby Bay, South Australia, to Mary Dora (née Fyfe) and Charles Victor Jeffery. His parents moved to Perth, Western Australia, when he was six, and he attended Perth Boys High School and Perth Technical School. Jeffery initially entered the police force, but later trained as a chemical plumber. He joined the Australian Army in 1941, and during the war served as a sapper with the Royal Australian Engineers. Jeffery returned to plumbing after leaving the military, and served on the executive of the Plumbers' Union. He was elected to parliament at the 1956 Legislative Council election, but served only a single six-year term before being defeated by Herbert Robinson at the 1962 election. George Barker Jeffery
George Barker Jeffery FRS (9 May 1891 – 27 April 1957) was a leading mathematical physicist in the early twentieth century. He is probably best known to the scientifically literate public as the translator of papers by Albert Einstein, Hendrik Lorentz, and other fathers of relativity theory. Career Jeffery was born in 1891 and educated at Strand School, Wilson's School and at King's College London. In 1909 he qualified as a teacher at the London Day Training College and graduated from University College London in 1911. From 1912 to 1921 Jeffery served as Assistant Lecturer in Applied Mathematics at University College, London. He was a research student and assistant of L. N. G. Filon. In 1921 he became University Reader in Mathematics at University College. In 1922 he was appointed Professor of Mathematics at King's College London.
