George Howard (jazz)
George Howard (September 15, 1956 – March 20, 1998) was an American smooth jazz saxophonist. Music career Howard was born on September 15, 1956, in Philadelphia. He was only six when he began taking music lessons at school on clarinet and bassoon. Influenced by John Coltrane and Wayne Shorter, he later on chose the soprano saxophone, because it resembled the bassoon. By the time he was 15, he began touring the country with notable rhythm-and-blues groups such as Blue Magic, First Choice and Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes. In the late 1970s, he toured with saxophonist Grover Washington, Jr., who was one of his idols. In the early 1980s, Howard started his solo career, and released his first and second studio albums, ''Asphalt Gardens'' in 1982, and '' Steppin' Out'' in 1984. Both albums were well received and ranked high on the ''Billboard'' magazine jazz album charts at No. 25 and 9, respectively. George Howard, Baron Howard Of Henderskelfe
Major George Anthony Geoffrey Howard, Baron Howard of Henderskelfe, JP (22 May 1920 – 27 November 1984) was a British politician, soldier and media man. Howard was a younger son of Geoffrey Howard and Ethel Christian Methuen, and grandson of the 9th Earl of Carlisle and the 3rd Baron Methuen. He was educated at Eton and Balliol College, Oxford and fought in the Second World War with the Green Howards, being wounded in Burma. In 1952 Howard was appointed to the office of Justice of the Peace for Yorkshire. He was chairman of the Board of Governors of the BBC from 1980 to 1983 after being a governor for eight years. He was made a life peer 1 July 1983 with the title Baron Howard of Henderskelfe, of Henderskelfe in the County of North Yorkshire. Howard married Lady Cecilia Blanche Genevieve FitzRoy (born 13 May 1922, died 1974), a daughter of Alfred FitzRoy, 8th Duke of Grafton, on 11 May 1949. George Bronson-Howard (January 7, 1884 – November 20, 1922) was an American writer. Several of his works were made into films. Some of Bronson's books were adorned by artwork on the frontispiece and some were illustrated by artists including Paul Stahr and Arthur Covey. He is also credited with lyrics and as a writer of several Broadway plays including ''Snobs'' (1911). ''Snobs'' was made into a film in 1915. George Eulan Howard (June 3, 1935November 21, 2018) was an American Hebraist, noted for his publication of an old Hebrew edition of Matthew. He was a full Professor Emeritus and Head of the Department of Religion and Hebrew (Ret.) at the University of Georgia, Athens, GA. Howard also was a former President of the Society of Biblical Literature, Southeastern Region. Life Howard was born in Holdenville, Oklahoma. Education Howard received a bachelor's degree from David Lipscomb College (Nashville) in 1957, a master's degree in theology from Harding School of Theology (Memphis) in 1961, and a PhD from Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 1964. George Elliott Howard
George Elliott Howard (October 1, 1849 – June 9, 1928) was an American educator and author. He was a professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 1889 to 1891, and a professor at Stanford from 1891 to 1901. He was also the president of the American Sociological Society in 1917. Early life George Elliott Howard was born on October 1, 1849, in Saratoga, New York, to Howard and Margaret Hardin. He moved to Nebraska with his family in 1868. Career After receiving an A.B. degree from the Peru State College, Howard traveled to Munich and Paris for to study Roman law and history from 1876 to January 1878. Field Marshal Sir George Howard KB, PC (17 June 1718 – 16 July 1796) was a British military officer and politician. After commanding the 3rd Regiment of Foot at the Battle of Fontenoy in May 1745 during the War of the Austrian Succession and after commanding that regiment again at the Battle of Falkirk Muir and the Battle of Culloden during the Jacobite Rebellion, he returned to the continent and fought at the Battle of Lauffeld. He went on to command a brigade at the Battle of Warburg during the Seven Years' War. He subsequently became the Governor of Minorca.
