George Hill (minister)
George Hill FRSE (27 May 1750–19 November 1819) was a Minister of St Andrews. He was a joint founder of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1783 and Moderator of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland in 1789, but an active member for much longer, where he succeeded William Robertson as leader of the Moderates. He was Principal of St Mary's College, St Andrews as well as Dean of the Chapel Royal and Dean of the Order of the Thistle. Life George Hill was born on 27 May 1750 in St Andrews. His father, Rev John Hill, was one of the ministers of that town. He was the eldest son of his second wife, Jean M'Cormick, but had older siblings from the first marriage, including John Hill. His sister, Janet Hill, was the mother of Rev George Cook. His family was intermarried with the other academic and clerical families in the town. George Stilman Hill
George Stilman Hill (April 10, 1794 – April 13, 1858) was a lawyer and political figure in New Brunswick. He represented Charlotte in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick from 1831 to 1846. Born in Milltown, New Brunswick, the son of Abner Hill, an American-born emigrant to New Brunswick, and Mary Whitney, he was educated at Dartmouth College in New England and went on to study law with Ward Chipman. Hill practised law in St. Stephen. He married Sarah Upton. Hill was named to the Legislative Council of New Brunswick in 1850. George Darvel Hill (16 June 1938 – 17 July 2017) was a New Zealand agronomist, naval reservist, justice of the peace and unionist. Early life and education Born in Wallsend, Northumberland, England, on 16 June 1938, Hill was the son of a master mariner. He was educated at Christ Church Grammar School in Perth, Western Australia, from 1949 to 1956, and later completed a Master of Science in agriculture in at the University of Western Australia in 1969. The title of his master's thesis was ''Effect of environment on the growth of Leucaena leucocephala''. Academic career Hill spent four years from 1965 as an agricultural researcher at Bubia, near Lae, in Papua New Guinea. He was appointed to an academic position at Lincoln University, near Christchurch, New Zealand, in October 1972. He rose to become an associate professor, and served as head of the Agronomy Department at Lincoln from 1994. George Rowland Hill
Sir George Rowland Hill (21 January 1855 – 25 April 1928) was an English sporting administrator, official and referee, who is most notable for his role as the Secretary and later President of the Rugby Football Union (RFU). Hill gave 49 years service to the RFU, and in 1927 became the first person to be knighted for services to the sport of rugby union. Sporting career Hill first came to prominence when in 1881 he became one of the first secretaries of the Rugby Football Union, the official union to the game of rugby football in England. He held this post until 1904, a period which saw two of the most important events in the sport of rugby, and Hill was at the centre of both. The first of these events was the attempt by the Irish, Scottish and Welsh Rugby Unions in the 1880s to form an international union. George J. Hill is a Canadian retired ice hockey center and coach who was an All-American for Michigan Tech. Early life Hill was born in Winnipeg. In 1960, he led the Brandon Wheat Kings to a first-place finish in the MJHL championship, winning the league scoring title, Rookie of the Year, and MVP. Brandon won the league tournament and advanced all the way to the Abbott Cup final, where they fell to the Edmonton Oil Kings 3–4. Hill's team had a near repeat performance the following year, this time losing to Edmonton, 1–4. Career After two junior seasons, Hill was recruited to Michigan Tech by John MacInnes. He played on the freshman team in 1962 and watched the varsity club win the program's first National Championship. George Hill (April 28, 1933 – November 10, 2020) was an American football coach who worked as an assistant in college football and in the National Football League. He was the defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins from 1996 to 1999. Prior to that, he served as the team's linebacker coach under Don Shula. George Jesse Hill Jr. (born May 4, 1986) is an American professional basketball player for the Milwaukee Bucks of the National Basketball Association (NBA). While playing for Indiana University–Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) he received many honors, including Summit League Player of the Year and was an honorable mention All-American his junior season. Hill was selected 26th overall by the San Antonio Spurs in the 2008 NBA draft and would spend three seasons with the team before being traded to the Indiana Pacers in June 2011. He spent five seasons in Indiana and was dealt to the Utah Jazz in July 2016. Hill signed with the Sacramento Kings as a free agent in July 2017, but was traded to the Cleveland Cavaliers in February 2018. With the Cavaliers, he made his first trip to the NBA Finals. As a pair skater, he was the 1933, 1935, 1936, and 1937 U.S. national champion with partner Maribel Vinson. As a single skater, he was the 1930, 1931, 1934, and 1936 U.S. bronze medalist.
