George Finch-Hatton (MP For Rochester)
George Finch-Hatton FRS (30 June 1747 – 17 February 1823) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons from 1772 to 1784. Early life Finch-Hatton was the son of Hon. Edward Finch-Hatton and was born on 30 June 1747. He was educated at Westminster School and at Christ's College, Cambridge, being awarded a Master of Arts degree in 1768. He assumed the additional surname of Hatton (his paternal grandmother's name) together with his father in 1764. He succeeded his Uncle Daniel to Eastwell Park in 1769 and his father to Kirby Hall, near Gretton in Northamptonshire in 1771. He rebuilt the house at Eastwell between 1793 and 1800 to designs by Joseph Bonomi. Career Finch-Hatton was elected Member of Parliament for Rochester at a by-election in 1772. He was re-elected to Rochester in contests in 1774 and 1780 but was defeated in at the 1784 general election. Finch-Hatton was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1776. George William Finch-Hatton, 10th Earl of Winchilsea, 5th Earl of Nottingham (19 May 1791 – 8 January 1858) was an English politician known for duelling with the then Prime Minister, Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington. Early life Hatton, born at Kirby Hall, Northamptonshire, on 19 May 1791, was grandson of Edward Finch-Hatton, and son of George Finch-Hatton (1747–1823) of Eastwell Park, near Ashford, Kent, M.P. for Rochester 1772–84, by his wife whom he married in 1785, Lady Elizabeth Murray, eldest daughter of David Murray, 2nd Earl of Mansfield. She died on 1 June 1825. George William, the elder son, was educated at Westminster School and Christ's College, Cambridge, where he proceeded B.A. in 1812. On 13 October 1809 he became a captain in the Ashford regiment of Kentish local militia, on 14 December 1819 commenced acting as a lieutenant of the Northamptonshire regiment of yeomanry, and on 7 September 1820 was named a deputy-lieutenant for the county of Kent. George James Finch-Hatton, 11th Earl of Winchilsea and 6th Earl of Nottingham (31 May 1815 – 9 June 1887), styled Viscount Maidstone between 1826 and 1857, was a British peer and Tory politician. Early life Winchilsea in May 1815 and was the son of George Finch-Hatton, 10th Earl of Winchilsea and 5th Earl of Nottingham (1791–1858) and his first wife Lady Georgiana Charlotte (died 1835), daughter of James Graham, 3rd Duke of Montrose (1755–1836). Career Winchilsea was elected as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Northamptonshire North in 1837, a seat he held until 1841. In 1858 he succeeded his father in the earldom and entered the House of Lords.
