George Cruikshank
George Cruikshank (27 September 1792 – 1 February 1878) was a British caricaturist and book illustrator, praised as the "modern Hogarth" during his life. His book illustrations for his friend Charles Dickens, and many other authors, reached an international audience. Early life Cruikshank was born in London. His father, Edinburgh-born Isaac Cruikshank, was one of the leading caricaturists of the late 1790s and Cruikshank started his career as his father's apprentice and assistant. His older brother, Isaac Robert, also followed in the family business as a caricaturist and illustrator. Cruikshank's early work was caricature; but in 1823, at the age of 31, he started to focus on book illustration. He illustrated the first, 1823 English translation (by Edgar Taylor and David Jardine) of ''Grimms' Fairy Tales'', published in two volumes as ''German Popular Stories''. George Cruickshank (Australian Politician)
George Alexander Cruickshank (1 February 1853 – 12 April 1904) was an Australian politician. Born near Dubbo, New South Wales, he attended Collegiate School in Bathurst, and was a grazier in northern New South Wales from 1878. In 1889 he was elected to the New South Wales Legislative Assembly as the member for Inverell, a position he held until 1898. In the first federal election in 1901, Cruickshank was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as a Protectionist Protectionism, sometimes referred to as trade protectionism, is the economic policy of restricting imports from other countries through methods such as tariffs on imported goods, import quotas, and a variety of other government regulations. ..., representing the seat of Gwydir. George Marcus Cruikshank (March 15, 1857 – September 15, 1936) was an American educator, newspaper editor, and historian active mostly in Birmingham, Alabama. He had political appointments on staff at Congress and as US Postmaster of Birmingham. Early life, education and early career George Marcus Cruikshank, born in Versailles, Kentucky, was the son of Marcus Cruikshank and his wife. The family moved to Alabama, where George's father was elected as a Confederate congressman and later mayor of Talladega, Alabama. George was raised in Talladega and completed his studies there. Cruikshank taught for a time in the Talladega County schools and the Alabama School for the Blind. George Cruickshank (bishop)
George Craig Cruikshank (1881 – October 1951) was the seventh Bishop of Waiapu from 1945 to 1946. He used his second name, Craig, as can be seen in his final, poignant letter to his diocese, in which he closed "To one and all, my wife and I say farewell in grateful remembrance of all you have been to us. Ever your friend, CRAIG WAIAPU," adopting the traditional episcopal form of replacing his family name with that of his diocese. He was born in 1881 and educated at Keble College, Oxford. He was ordained in 1908 and was a curate at St Hilda's Church, Darlington and then vicar of Whangarei. This was a position he technically held twice, from 1910-1913, and then from 1914-1923, as during the war years he served as a chaplain to the first New Zealand Expeditionary Force.
