George Man Burrows
George Man Burrows (1771 – 29 October 1846) was an English physician who was an expert on insanity. Biography Burrows was born at Chalk, Kent, Chalk, near Gravesend, Kent, Gravesend, in 1771. He was educated at the King's School, Canterbury, was apprenticed to an apothecary at Rochester, Kent, Rochester, and completed his medical education at Guy's and St. Thomas's Hospitals. After qualifying at the College of Surgeons and Apothecaries' Hall, he entered on general practice in London. He became deeply interested in the legal status of the medical profession, and organised the Association of Surgeon-Apothecaries of England and Wales, with the object of improving the education and status of the profession. As chairman of this body Burrows was most indefatigable, and had a large share in the movement which led to the passing of the Apothecaries' Act in 1815. Sir George Burrows, Bt, PRS, (28 November 1801 – 12 December 1887) was an English physician and President of the Royal College of Physicians. Early life He was born in London, the son of George Man Burrows FRCP and his wife Sophia (née Druce) Burrows, and went to school in Ealing. Career He studied at St Bartholomew's Hospital before going up to Caius College, Cambridge in 1820 where he was elected a fellow of his college after taking his B.A. degree in 1825. A year later he graduated as M.B. and resumed his medical studies at St. Bartholomew's. He was appointed joint lecturer on medical jurisprudence at St. Bartholomew's in 1932. In 1834 he was made assistant physician and in 1836 joint lecturer on medicine. In 1841 he was promoted to be full physician, an office which he held for twenty-two years, and became sole lecturer on medicine. He was also physician to Christ's Hospital for many years. George Burroughs
George Burroughs ( 1650August 19, 1692) was an American religious leader who was the only minister executed for witchcraft during the course of the Salem witch trials. He is best known for reciting the Lord's Prayer during his execution, something it was believed a witch could never do. Early life George Burroughs may have been born in Suffolk, England, although some sources claim he was born in Scituate sometime in 1650. Another source gives his birth date and place as Virginia, 1652. He was raised by his mother in the town of Roxbury, Massachusetts. As an American Congregational pastor, he graduated from Harvard College in 1670 with distinguished honors, where he was also considered an outstanding athlete. He became the minister of Salem Village (now Danvers) in 1680 (where he would eventually be convicted of witchcraft and hanged).
