George Loring Brown
George Loring Brown (February 2, 1814 – June 25, 1889) was an American landscape painter. He was born in Boston and first studied wood engraving under Alonzo Hartwell and worked as an illustrator. He studied painting with Washington Allston, but soon went to Europe, residing principally in Italy for years. Brown spent much of his life abroad, and the motives of his pictures are usually Italian, and there is nothing specifically American about them either in treatment or sentiment. Among the best are ''Sunset in Genoa'' (1875), ''Doges' Palace and Grand Canal'', ''Bay of Naples,'' ''Niagara Falls in Moonlight''. George Stewart Brown (August 16, 1871 – November 11, 1941) was a judge of the United States Customs Court and a member of the Board of General Appraisers. Education and career Born on August 16, 1871, in Baltimore, Maryland, Brown received an Artium Baccalaureus degree in 1893 from Johns Hopkins University. He received a Bachelor of Laws in 1895 from the University of Maryland School of Law. He worked in private practice in Baltimore from 1895 to 1913. He served as a member of the Baltimore City Council from 1899 to 1907. Federal Judicial Service Brown was nominated by President Woodrow Wilson on October 16, 1913, to a seat on the Board of General Appraisers vacated by Roy Chamberlain. George Houston Brown
George Houston Brown (February 12, 1810 – August 1, 1865) was an American Whig Party politician, who represented in the United States House of Representatives from 1851 to 1853. Biography Brown was born in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, on February 12, 1810. He attended the common schools and Lawrenceville Academy and graduated from Princeton College in 1828. He was a teacher in Lawrenceville Academy from 1828 to 1830. He studied law at Yale College for one year and also in a law office in Somerville, New Jersey, was admitted to the bar in 1835 and commenced practice in Somerville. He was a member of the New Jersey Legislative Council from 1842 to 1845, and was a delegate to the New Jersey constitutional convention in 1844. Brown was elected as a Whig to the Thirty-second Congress, serving in office from March 4, 1851, to March 3, 1853, but was not a candidate for renomination in 1852. George Brown (January 10, 1746 – June 19, 1836) was a Rhode Island politician and judge who served as a justice of the Rhode Island Supreme Court from May 1796 to June 1799, and as the first Lieutenant governor of Rhode Island from 1799 to 1800. George Alfred George-Brown, Baron George-Brown, (2 September 1914 – 2 June 1985) was a British Labour Party politician who served as Deputy Leader of the Labour Party from 1960 to 1970 and held several Cabinet roles under Prime Minister Harold Wilson, including Foreign Secretary and First Secretary of State. After leaving school at the age of 15, Brown began work as a clerk, before joining the Transport and General Workers' Union. He rose quickly through the union ranks as an organiser, and shortly before the 1945 election he was chosen as the Labour Party candidate for the seat of Belper. George Mackenzie Brown (1869 – 14 July 1946) was a Canadian-born Scottish publisher who also followed a political career. As a publisher, he produced Arthur Conan Doyle's books; as a politician, he beat him to win election to the House of Commons. George Francis Brown (1802–1871) was a British civil servant of the East India Company, and Commissioner of Bhagalpur, Bihar at the time of the Santhal rebellion. Early life He was the son of David Brown, and younger brother of Charles Philip Brown. His father, a chaplain in Bengal, died in 1812, and his mother Frances (née Cowley) then brought her family of eight children to London. In 1819 he was nominated for the East India College.
