Geoff Robinson (rugby League, Born 1957)
Geoffrey Robinson (14 December 1957 – 3 July 2024), also known by the nickname of "Robbo", was an Australian professional rugby league footballer who played in the 1970s and 1980s. He played for Canterbury-Bankstown in the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) competition. Robinson primarily played at . Playing career Of English and Maltese descent, At 18, Robinson was graded by Canterbury from the Chester Hill Hornets in 1976. He made his first-grade début against Eastern Suburbs on 28 May 1977, aged 19. Robinson stood out on the field with his long dark hair, bushy beard and socks around his ankles, he was renowned for his devastating runs at the line. Robinson was a member of Canterbury-Bankstown's 1980 Premiership winning team in their 18–4 win over Eastern Suburbs and their 1984 Premiership win over Parramatta (6–4). Villawood, New South Wales
Villawood, a suburb of local government areas City of Canterbury-Bankstown and City of Fairfield, is 22 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the state of New South Wales, Australia, and is a part of the Greater Western Sydney region. History The Aboriginal tribe of Gandangara once lived in the area. European settlement began in the early 1840s. During the 1860s, Villawood was used as pastoral land, but it was overrun with wild dogs. Woodville Road, which runs through Villawood, was once named Dog Trap Road because many farmers set dog traps for these wild dogs. A train station opened in 1922 to service the area was originally known as Woodville Road. Unfortunately, there was confusion with another place called Woodville in the Hunter Valley and thus the name was transposed into 'Villawood'. 1985–86 Rugby Football League Season
The 1985–86 Rugby Football League season was the 91st ever season of professional rugby league football in Britain. Sixteen teams competed from August, 1985 until May, 1986 for the Slalom Lager Championship. Season summary Slalom Lager League Champions were Halifax. Halifax finished on top of the First Division table to claim their fourth, and to date, last championship, but Warrington defeated them in the Rugby League Premiership competition. Paul Bishop of Warrington scored a record equalling 5 drop goals in the Premiership semi-final against Wigan on 11 May 1986. Canterbury-Bankstown is a customary region of Sydney, Australia, in the south-western suburbs. Wetherill Park is a suburb in Greater Western Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia.
