Genesis 1976–1982
''Genesis 1976–1982'' is a box set of five studio albums by Genesis. It was released on 2 April 2007 in Europe & Japan by Virgin/EMI and on 15 May 2007 in North America by Atlantic/Rhino. The 6-CD/6-DVD box set includes newly remixed versions of the albums ''A Trick of the Tail'', ''Wind & Wuthering'', '' ...And Then There Were Three...'', ''Duke'', and ''Abacab''. The sixth pair of discs includes B-side songs. Each CD also has an associated DVD which features audio versions of the albums in 5.1 surround sound, as well as videos for songs from that album or tour, new interviews and photo galleries. Audio formats In November 2006 Banks, Rutherford, and Collins announced they were reforming Genesis for the 2007 Turn It On Again Tour. Genesis (band)
Genesis are an English rock band formed at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, in 1967. The band's most commercially successful line-up consisted of keyboardist Tony Banks, bassist/guitarist Mike Rutherford and drummer/singer Phil Collins. The 1970s line-up, featuring singer Peter Gabriel and guitarist Steve Hackett, was among the pioneers of progressive rock. The group were formed by five Charterhouse pupils, including Banks, Rutherford, Gabriel, and Anthony Phillips, and named by former Charterhouse pupil Jonathan King, who arranged for them to record several singles and their debut album ''From Genesis to Revelation'' in 1968. After splitting from King, the band began touring, signed with Charisma Records and became a progressive rock band on ''Trespass'' (1970). The Carpet Crawlers
"The Carpet Crawlers" is a song by the English progressive rock band Genesis, recorded for their sixth studio album ''The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway''. Mike Rutherford and Tony Banks wrote most of the music, with the help of Peter Gabriel. Lyrically, the song tells the section of the album's story whereby Rael, the lead character, finds himself in a red carpeted corridor surrounded by kneeling people slowly crawling towards a wooden door. Rael dashes by them towards the door and goes through it. Behind the door is a table with a candlelit feast on it, and behind that, a spiral staircase that leads upwards out of sight. The complex symbolism of Peter Gabriel's lyrics has been interpreted as referring to the fertilisation journey or as describing a scene inspired by Gnosticism in which humanity is misled by the 'callers': instead of the promise of heaven, the carpet crawlers find death and rebirth to a hellish environment. "I Know What I Like (In Your Wardrobe)" was the first charting single by the rock band Genesis. It was drawn from their 1973 album ''Selling England by the Pound''. The single was released in the UK in February 1974, and became a minor hit in April 1974, when it reached number 21 in the UK Singles Chart. Production The song's lyrics concern a young man, Jacob, who is employed as a groundsman and who says that he does not want to grow up and do great things, being perfectly happy where he is, pushing a lawn mower. Betty Swanwick's painting ''The Dream'', which was used for the ''Selling England'' album cover, alludes to the song; Swanwick added the mower to the original painting at the band's request. "A Trick of the Tail" is a song by the progressive rock band Genesis taken from the 1976 album of the same name. It was written by the band's keyboard player Tony Banks. Music video "A Trick of the Tail" was the third Genesis song to be accompanied by a promotional video, and the first single featuring Phil Collins as the band's lead vocalist. Previously their drummer, frequently singing backing vocals, Collins was now the band's lead singer, while continuing to play drums and percussion. The video, directed by Bruce Gowers, features the band gathered around an upright piano, with the front panels removed, performing the song. Special effects including chroma key make Collins, in miniature size, appear to walk and dance inside the piano, as well as on Steve Hackett's guitar. The video concludes with all four of the band miniaturized on the piano keyboard.
