General Motors 60° V6 Engine
The General Motors 60° V6 engine family is a series of V6 engine#60 degrees, 60° V6 engines produced for both longitudinal engine, longitudinal and transverse engine, transverse applications. All of these engines are 12-valve cam-in-block or overhead valve engines, except for the #LQ1, LQ1; which uses 24 valves driven by dual overhead cams. These engines vary in displacement between and have a cast-iron block and either cast-iron or aluminum heads. Production of these engines began in 1980 and ended in 2005 in the U.S., with production continued in China until 2010. This engine family was the basis for the GM High Value engine family. These engines have also been referred to as the X engines due to their first usage in the GM X platform (FWD), X-body cars. In automotive engineering, a longitudinal engine is an internal combustion engine in which the crankshaft is oriented along the long axis of the vehicle, front to back. Use This type of motor is usually used for rear-wheel drive cars, except for some Audi and SAAB models equipped with longitudinal engines in front wheel drive. In front-wheel drive cars a transverse engine is usually used. Trucks often have longitudinal engines with rear-wheel drive. Buick Century
Buick Century is the model name that was used by Buick for a line of upscale full-size cars from 1936 to 1942 and 1954 to 1958, as well as from 1973 to 2005 for mid-size cars. The first Buick Century debuted as the Series 60 then renamed in 1936 as a shorter and lighter model featuring the same engine as the bigger Roadmaster and Limited series giving it more performance while using the shorter wheelbase body of the Buick Special. Buick Skylark
The Buick Skylark is a passenger car formerly produced by Buick. The model was made in six production runs, during 46 years, over which the car's design varied dramatically due to changing technology, tastes, and new standards implemented over the years. It was named for the species of bird called ''skylark''. GMC Truck produced a unique 60 degree V6 engine family from 1959 through 1974, in gasoline and diesel versions. V8 and V12 derivatives of the basic design were also produced. Examples of this engine family were found in pickup trucks, Suburbans, heavier trucks and motor coaches. GM High Value Engine
The High Value engine family from General Motors is a group of cam-in-block or "overhead valve" V6 engines. They use the same 60° vee bank as the 60° V6 family they are based on, but the new bore required offsetting the bores by away from the engine centerline. These engines (aside from the LX9) are the first cam in block engines to implement variable valve timing, and won the 2006 Breakthrough Award from ''Popular Mechanics'' for this innovation.
