Gaybo's Grumpy Men
''Gaybo's Grumpy Men'' is an Irish version of the BBC conversational-style television programme '' Grumpy Old Men'' on RTÉ which debuted in 2005. This Christmas special featured Gay Byrne as the onscreen presenter, as well as interviewer of his Grumpy Men, this differed from the BBC version in which Geoffrey Palmer is merely the narrator. The format shows a number of well-known middle-aged men talk about things which annoy, listed in alphabetical order. Comedy
Comedy is a genre of fiction that consists of discourses or works intended to be humorous or amusing by inducing laughter, especially in theatre, film, stand-up comedy, television, radio, books, or any other entertainment medium. The Walls
The Walls are an Irish rock band. They were formed in 1998 by two ex-members of The Stunning – brothers Steve and Joe Wall. Their debut album ''Hi-Lo'' was released in 2000 and included the singles "Bone Deep", "Something's Wrong" and "Some Kind of a Girl". The Walls supported U2 at their second show in Slane Castle in 2001. A number of songs from ''Hi-Lo'' featured in movies: ''Goldfish Memory'', '' On the Edge'', and '' Dead Bodies''. In 2002 they released the single "To the Bright and Shining Sun", which was used on an Irish TV commercial and reached number 11 in the Irish Singles Chart. The subsequent album ''New Dawn Breaking'' (2005) included "To the Bright and Shining Sun" and three other singles: "Drowning Pool", "Passing Through" and "Black and Blue". Alan Stanford
Alan Stanford (born 1949) is an English-Irish actor, director and writer. He has worked in the theatre for many years, including a 30 year association with the Gate Theatre as both actor and director. He is well known for playing George Manning in the popular Irish drama series ''Glenroe''. Personal life Though originally from Liverpool, Alan Stanford's childhood was spent on the Isle of Wight in the South of England. He was an only child. He trained as an actor at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Stanford moved to Ireland in 1969 after touring there and eventually became an Irish citizen. John O'Shea (humanitarian)
John O'Shea (born 1944) is founder and former CEO of GOAL, an Irish non-governmental organization devoted to assisting the poorest of the poor. His first career was as a sports journalist and GOAL retains significant links to the sporting community, especially in Ireland. O'Shea was shortlisted in the top 40 of 2010 RTÉ poll to find '' Ireland's Greatest'' person. Early life and career O'Shea was born in County Limerick in 1944 and lived in Westport and in Cork. Páidí Ó Sé
Páidí Ó Sé (, ; 16 May 1955 – 15 December 2012) was an Irish Gaelic football manager and player, whose league and championship career at senior level with the Kerry county team spanned fifteen seasons from 1974 to 1988. Ó Sé is widely regarded as one of the greatest defenders of his generation. Born in Ceann Trá, County Kerry, Ó Sé was named after the Kerry Gaelic footballer of the time; Paudie Sheehy. David Norris (politician)
David Patrick Bernard Norris (born 31 July 1944) is an Irish scholar, independent Senator and civil rights activist. Internationally, Norris is credited with having "managed, almost single-handedly, to overthrow the anti-homosexuality law which brought about the downfall of Oscar Wilde", a feat he achieved in 1988 after a fourteen-year campaign. He has also been credited with being "almost single-handedly responsible for rehabilitating James Joyce in once disapproving Irish eyes". Gary Kavanagh
Gary Kavanagh is a former Gaelic footballer from County Laois. He played for the Stradbally club. He usually played at wing forward for the Laois senior football team and in 2003 was part of the Laois team that won the Leinster Senior Football Championship title for the first time since 1946. Kavanagh emerged on to the inter-county GAA scene in 1997 as part of the Laois minor squad that retained the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship.
