Gianandrea Gavazzeni
Gianandrea Gavazzeni (25 July 19095 February 1996) was an Italian pianist, conductor (especially of opera), composer and musicologist. Gavazzeni was born in Bergamo. For almost 50 years, starting from 1948, he was principal conductor at La Scala, Milan, in 1966–68 being its music and artistic director. He had his Metropolitan Opera debut on 11 October 1976. He conducted eight performances of Giuseppe Verdi's ''Il trovatore'' that year at the Met. His compositions include: concertos such as 'Concerto bergamasco'; 'The Song of St Alexander'; and sonatas. His last wife was the soprano Denia Mazzola-Gavazzeni. Giovanni Gavazzeni
Giovanni Gavazzeni (13 September 1841 – 29 November 1907) was an Italian painter of portraits and sacred subjects. He was born in Talamona in the Valtellina. Giovanni studied at the Accademia Carrara in Bergamo under Enrico Scuri. He painted a ''Virgin Mary with Souls in Heaven'' for the chapel in the cemetery of Delebio, as well as devotional frescoes on the walls of houses. He also painted frescoes for churches in Caspoggio, Ponte, and a ''Holy Family'' for the parish church in Villa di Tirano. He also painted the ceiling (''Assumption of the Virgin'') and a chapel (''Death of St Joseph'') of the Collegiata in Sondrio Sondrio (; lmo, Sùndri; rm, Sunder; archaic german: Sünders or ; la, Sundrium) is an Italian city and ''comune'' and Provincial Capital located in the heart of the Valtellina. , Sondrio counts approximately 21,876 inhabitants (2015) and it is ....E.
