Gavan Daws
Gavan Daws is an American writer, historian and filmmaker residing in Honolulu, Hawaii. He writes about Hawaii, the Pacific, and Asia. He is a retired professor of history at University of Hawaii at Manoa. Daws is originally from Australia and got his B.A. in English and History from the University of Melbourne. He has a Ph.D. in Pacific History from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. His best-known works are ''Shoal of Time: A History of the Hawaiian Islands'', in print since 1968; ''Holy Man: Father Damien of Molokai'', the biography of a nineteenth-century missionary priest to Hawaii who served leprosy sufferers, and who has recently been canonized; and ''Prisoners of the Japanese: POWs of World War II in the Pacific.'' Daws co-produced and co-directed ''Angels of War: The People of Papua New Guinea and World War II'', which won the Australian Film Institute Award for Best Documentary. Alexandru Găvan
Alex Găvan (born 19 May 1982) is a leading Romanian mountaineer specializing in Himalayan climbing of 8,000 meter peaks without using supplemental oxygen or sherpa support in his ascents. By now he had successfully climbed seven 8,000 meter peaks. Since 2006, Găvan runs a special project to climb all fourteen 8,000 meter mountains in the world. He is the first Romanian climber to reach the summit of Gasherbrum I, Makalu, and Shishapangma. His other three successful climbs of Cho Oyu, Manaslu, and Broad Peak are second Romanian ascents. In 2006, with the successful ascent of Cho Oyu, he became at 24 years old the youngest Romanian ever to have climbed an eight thousand meter peak and was among the few who freely spoke about the Nangpa La shootings. , also known as ''Space Cop Gabin'' and ''Space Cop Gaban'', is a Japanese Tokusatsu series produced by Toei Company that aired on TV Asahi from March 5, 1982 to February 25, 1983. The series launched the Metal Hero franchise and was the first installment in the ''Space Sheriff'' series. Plot Earth is invaded by the criminal organization known as Makuu, led by Don Horror, who had first destroyed a space colony near Earth. Don Horror wants to dominate the whole universe, and the Earth represents an obstacle that he has to overcome by turning it into a domain for all evil. John Gavan (1640–20 June 1679) was an English Jesuit. He was a victim of the fabricated Popish Plot, and was wrongfully executed for conspiracy (criminal), conspiracy to murder Charles II of England, King Charles II. He was beatified in 1929 by Pope Pius XI. Life He was born in London in 1640, to a family which originally came from Norrington in Wiltshire: he was probably descended from John Gawen MP (died 1418), who built Norrington Manor in the 1370s. He was educated at the Jesuit College at St. Omer's and then at Liège and Watten, Nord, Watten. James (band)
James are an English rock band from Manchester, who were formed in 1982. They had popularity throughout the 1990s, with four top 10s on the UK Singles Chart and nine top 10s on the UK Albums Chart. The band's best-known singles include " Come Home", " Sit Down", "She's a Star" and " Laid", which also became a hit on American college radio. Charles Gavan Duffy (November 2, 1874 – March 14, 1958) was a lawyer, judge and political figure on Prince Edward Island. He represented 5th Queens in the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island from 1920 to 1923 as a Liberal and served as Speaker of the Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island. He was born in Kinkora, Prince Edward Island, the son of James Duffy and Elizabeth Smith. After completing high school in 1891, Duffy attended Prince of Wales College and earned his teaching licence. After teaching school in Tracadie and Tignish, Duffy returned to school, attending Saint Dunstan's College. Duffy articled with Walter Morson and was called to the bar in 1903. The firm later came to be known as Morson and Duffy. Duffy was named King's Counsel in 1921. Duffy was an unsuccessful candidate for a seat in the provincial assembly in 1915.
