Gautam Biswas
Gautam Biswas ( bn, গৌতম বিশ্বাস; born 23 May 1956) is presently a professor of mechanical engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur. Earlier, he has been the director of Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, and director of the CSIR - Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute at Durgapur. As a faculty member of IIT Kanpur, he has served the Institute in various capacities including the Dean of Academic Affairs. Prof Gautam Biswas is a Fellow of the three science academies, such as, the Indian National Science Academy (INSA, New Delhi), the Indian Academy of Sciences (IAS, Bangalore) and the National Academy of Sciences India (NASI, Allahabad). He is a Fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE) and Institution of Engineers (IEI). Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) is a public institute of technology established by the Government of India in Kharagpur, West Bengal, India. Indian Institutes of Engineering Science and Technology (abbreviated as IIEST) was a planned group of academic institutions in India for research and education in engineering, originally proposed by the Government of India in 2007 to meet the increasing demand for technological and scientific workforce in the industrial and service sectors of India as well as the growing need for qualified personnel in research and development. The Indian Academy of Sciences, Bangalore was founded by Indian Physicist and Nobel Laureate C. V. Raman, and was registered as a society on 24 April 1934. The Indian National Science Academy (INSA) is a national academy in New Delhi for Indian scientists in all branches of science and technology. In August 2019, Dr. Chandrima Shaha was appointed as the president of Indian National Science Academy, becoming the first woman to head the INSA (for 2020–22).
