Gauriganj is a constituency of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly covering the city of Gauriganj in the Amethi district of Uttar Pradesh, India. Gauriganj is one of five assembly constituencies in the Amethi Lok Sabha constituency. Since 2008, this assembly constituency is numbered 185 amongst 403 constituencies. Rakesh Pratap Singh
Rakesh Pratap Singh (born 30 June 1976) is an Indian politician and a member of the 18th Uttar Pradesh Assembly from Gauriganj constituency. He is a member of Samajwadi Party. Singh was elected for the first time in the 2012 Uttar Pradesh election, an accomplishment he repeated in 2017. He resigned on 31 October 2021 citing "non-fulfilment of promises" by the government. Personal life Singh was born on 30 June 1976 to Tej Pratap Singh in Mau, Gauriganj of Amethi district in Uttar Pradesh. He completed High School in 1991 from SPIC Raniganj Kaithaula Pratapgarh. Singh married Shilam Singh on 1 June 1996, with whom he has a son and a daughter. He is an agriculturalist and industrialist by profession. Amethi District
Amethi district is the 72nd district of the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India. This district is a part of Faizabad division (officially ''Ayodhya division'') in the Awadh region of the Uttar Pradesh. It covers an area of 2329.11 km². Gauriganj is the administrative headquarters of the district. It is better known due to being the seat of power of the Indian Nehru-Gandhi political dynasty since 1980. Amethi Lok Sabha Constituency
Amethi Lok Sabha constituency is in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. It covers the entire Amethi district and was created in 1967. The seat has almost always been held by the Indian National Congress (INC), save for a half-dozen years in the late 1970s and late 1990s. Rahul Gandhi held the seat for the longest period, from 2004 to 2019, and the seat had also been held by his mother, father, and uncle. Its first member of parliament (MP) was Vidya Dhar Bajpai of INC, who was reelected in 1971. In the 1977 election, Ravindra Pratap Singh of the Janata Party became its MP. Singh was defeated in 1980 by Sanjay Gandhi of the INC. He died in a plane crash later that year, and a 1981 by-election was won by his brother, Rajiv Gandhi. The election to the 17th Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly was held from 11 February to 8 March 2017 in 7 phases. This election saw a voter turnout of 61.11% compared to 59.40% in the previous election.
