Gauhar Raza
Gauhar Raza (born 17 August 1956) is an Indian scientist by profession, and a leading Urdu poet, social activist and documentary filmmaker working to popularize the understanding of science among general public, known for his films like ''Jung-e-Azadi'', on the India's First War of Independence, and ''Inqilab'' (2008) on Bhagat Singh. He was also the honorary director of Jahangirabad Media Institute. Early life and education Born in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India on 17 August 1956. His family shifted to Aligarh in 1958. His father Wizarat Husain (1919 = 2007) was a freedom fighter, a communist party member and a renowned educationist and science teacher in Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. Aligarh (; formerly known as Allygarh, and Kol) is a city in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. It is the administrative headquarters of Aligarh district, and lies northwest of state capital Lucknow and approximately southeast of the capital, New Delhi. The Emergency (India)
The Emergency in India was a 21-month period from 1975 to 1977 when Prime Minister Indira Gandhi had a state of emergency declared across the country. Officially issued by President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed under Article 352 of the Constitution because of prevailing "internal disturbance", the Emergency was in effect from 25 June 1975 to its withdrawal on 21 March 1977. The order bestowed upon the Prime Minister the authority to rule by decree, allowing elections to be cancelled and civil liberties to be suspended. For much of the Emergency, most of Gandhi's political opponents were imprisoned and the press was censored. Several other human rights violations were reported from the time, including a mass campaign for vasectomy spearheaded by her son Sanjay Gandhi. University Grants Commission (India)
University Grants Commission (UGC) is a statutory body set up by the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India in accordance to the UGC Act 1956 and is charged with coordination, determination and maintenance of standards of higher education in India. It provides recognition to universities in India, and disbursements of funds to such recognized universities and colleges. The headquarters are in New Delhi, and it has six regional centres in Pune, Bhopal, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Guwahati and Bangalore. A proposal to replace it with another new regulatory body called HECI is under consideration by the Government of India. Safdar Hashmi
Safdar Hashmi (12 April 1954 – 2 January 1989) was a communist playwright and director, best known for his work with street theatre in India. He was also an actor, lyricist, and theorist, and he is still considered an important voice in Indian political theatre. He was an activist of the Students' Federation of India (SFI). He was a founding member of ''Jana Natya Manch'' (People's Theatre Front; JANAM for short) in 1973, which grew out of the Indian People's Theatre Association (IPTA). He was murdered in 1989 in Jhandapur, while performing a street play, ''Halla Bol''. Personal life Safdar Hashmi was born on 12 April 1954 in Delhi, to Haneef and Qamar Azad Hashmi. ''Say Salaam India'' is an 2007 Indian Hindi language sports drama film, written and directed by Subhash Kapoor, and starring Sanjay Suri, Milind Soman, Anuj Pandit Sharma, and Sandhya Mridul. The film revolves around a group of four boys and their passion for the sport. Plot The film begins by introducing four boys, Viru, Mahi, Shakeel and Guri, and how they fight their circumstances and lack of resources to pursue their love of cricket. Meanwhile, in the elite Royal Heritage School in the state capital, a cricket coach Hari Sadu has the task of coaching the school team to win their sixth state championship, but faces opposition to his coaching methods by players on the team, who are talented but unwilling to work hard to improve.
