Gas (Bottom Episode)
"Gas" is the second episode of the first series of Television in the United Kingdom, British British sitcom, sitcom ''Bottom (TV series), Bottom''. It was first broadcast on 24 September 1991. Synopsis After nearly killing the gas man, Richie and Eddie must remove an illegal gas connection from next door without disturbing their violent neighbour. Plot The episode begins with Eddie and Richie playing cards in their flat with all their gas appliances turned on at full blast. During the game, it is revealed that their gas pipe is not attached to their meter, but instead to next door's. There is a knock at the door, which Richie answers. He is distressed to reveal that it is the gas man who is there to read their meter. Richie distracts him by pretending to be insane, whilst Eddie switches off the gas. Bottom (TV Series)
''Bottom'' is a British sitcom created by Rik Mayall and Adrian Edmondson that ran for three series on BBC2 from 1991 to 1995. It focuses on Richard "Richie" Richard (Mayall) and Edward Elizabeth "Eddie" Hitler (Edmondson), two unemployed, crude, and perverted flatmates living in Hammersmith, London, who aspire to better themselves. ''Bottom'' became known for its chaotic, nihilistic humour and violent slapstick comedy. In 2004, ''Bottom'' was ranked 45th in a BBC poll for ''Britain's Best Sitcom''. Ade Edmondson
Adrian Charles Edmondson (born 24 January 1957) is an English actor, comedian, musician, writer and television presenter. He was part of the alternative comedy boom in the early 1980s and had roles in the television series '' The Young Ones'' (1982–1984) and ''Bottom'' (1991–1995), which he wrote together with his collaborator Rik Mayall. Edmondson also appeared in '' The Comic Strip Presents...'' series of films throughout the 1980s and 1990s. For one episode of this he created the spoof heavy metal band Bad News, and for another he played his nihilistic alter-ego Eddie Monsoon, an offensive South African television star. He played the lead role in the Comic Strip's 1985 feature film, ''The Supergrass''. Rik Mayall
Richard Michael Mayall (7 March 1958 – 9 June 2014) was an English actor, stand-up comedian and writer. He formed a close partnership with Ade Edmondson while they were students at Manchester University and was a pioneer of alternative comedy in the 1980s. "Contest" is the third episode of the first series of British sitcom '' Bottom''. It was first broadcast on Tuesday 1 October 1991. Synopsis With Eddie having spent most of their remaining £11.80 on a second-hand copy of ''Parade'' magazine, he and Richie spend a night watching Miss World on the television. Plot The episode begins with Richie placing his head in the oven in a suicide attempt. He has left a suicide note on the table for Eddie to read. It is revealed that this is in fact a ploy to guilt-trip Eddie into buying him a drink. Eddie enters the room, places his briefcase on top of the note and proceeds to read the newspaper. When he notices Richie with his head in the oven, he shrugs indifferently, and Richie relents.
