Gary Emineth
Gary Lee Emineth (born October 24, 1958) is an American businessman and political figure. He is the former Chairman of the North Dakota Republican Party and a former member of the Republican National Committee, having served in both positions from 2007-2010. Emineth served as an at-large delegate to the 2016 Republican National Convention from North Dakota. Emineth served on the Washburn, North Dakota city council in the early 1980s and lost a bid for seat in the North Dakota House of Representatives in 1984. In the 2010 election, he led the North Dakota Republican Party as every Republican candidate for statewide office won election, including US Representative and US Senator. During both of his terms as state party chairman, Republicans significantly increased their majorities in both houses of the state legislature. Ken Karls (born July 15, 1947) is a North Dakota political figure who served as the Chairman of the North Dakota Republican Party from 2003 until July 2007. On May 2, 2007 Karls announced that he would not be running for another two years in the job. Washburn, North Dakota
Washburn is a city in southern McLean County, North Dakota, United States. Located along the upper Missouri River, it is the county seat of McLean County. The population was 1,300 at the 2020 census. Washburn was founded in 1882 near the former site of Fort Mandan, winter quarters of the Lewis and Clark Expedition in 1804-1805, near a Mandan village. The town was designated as the county seat in 1883. The city's name honors General Cadwallader C. Washburn. Washburn is home to the North Dakota Lewis and Clark Interpretive Center, which focuses on the Expedition's winter near the Mandan village. The 2016 Republican National Convention, in which delegates of the United States Republican Party chose the party's nominees for president and vice president in the 2016 U.S. presidential election, was held July 18–21, 2016, at Quicken Loans Arena (now Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse) in Cleveland, Ohio. The event marked the third time Cleveland has hosted the Republican National Convention and the first since 1936. The North Dakota House of Representatives is the lower house of the North Dakota Legislative Assembly and is larger than the North Dakota Senate. North Dakota is divided into between 40 and 54 legislative districts apportioned by population as determined by the decennial census. The 2000 redistricting plan provided for 47 districts. As each district elects two Representatives to the House, there are currently 94 representatives in the House. Representatives serve four-year terms. Elections are staggered such that half the districts have elections every two years.
