Garry Hamer
Garry Hamer (born 13 February 1943) is a former Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Football Geelong (VFL) Hamer was a half forward, defender and ruckman, recruited to Geelong from Lemnos, a Shepparton-based club. He made his debut in the opening round of the 1961 VFL season against Collingwood, one of eight appearances he would make that year. In 1962 he was one of three Geelong players to appear in all 21 games. This included both the drawn preliminary final against Carlton and the controversial five-point loss in the replay a week later. On 6 July 1963 he was a member of the Geelong team that were comprehensively and unexpectedly beaten by Fitzroy, 9.13 (67) to 3.13 (31) in the 1963 Miracle Match. Shepparton Swans Football Club
The Shepparton Swans Football Netball Club is an Australian rules football and netball club based in the city of Shepparton in northern Victoria. The club teams currently compete in the Goulburn Valley League. History The Shepparton Swans were originally known as the "Lemnos Football Club", named after the Greek island of the same name where some local Shepparton men were posted during World War I (the local area, originally known as 'Thomas Estate No. 5', became known as that from then on) and played in black and yellow jumpers. The club would play in the Goulburn Valley Second Eighteens Football Association from its establishment in 1928 to 1936. 1976 VFL Season
The 1976 VFL season was the 80th season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 3 April until 25 September, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top five clubs. The premiership was won by the Hawthorn Football Club for the third time, after it defeated by 30 points in the 1976 VFL Grand Final. Premiership season In 1976, the VFL competition consisted of twelve teams of 18 on-the-field players each, plus two substitute players, known as the 19th man and the 20th man. A player could be substituted for any reason; however, once substituted, a player could not return to the field of play under any circumstances. Leg Before Wicket
Leg before wicket (lbw) is one of the ways in which a batsman can be dismissed in the sport of cricket. Following an appeal by the fielding side, the umpire may rule a batter out lbw if the ball would have struck the wicket but was instead intercepted by any part of the batter's body (except the hand holding the bat). The umpire's decision will depend on a number of criteria, including where the ball pitched, whether the ball hit in line with the wickets, the ball's expected future trajectory after hitting the batsman, and whether the batter was attempting to hit the ball. Leg before wicket first appeared in the laws of cricket in 1774, as batsmen began to use their pads to prevent the ball hitting their wicket. Colin Cowdrey
Michael Colin Cowdrey, Baron Cowdrey of Tonbridge, (24 December 19324 December 2000) was an English first-class cricketer who played for Oxford University (1952–1954), Kent County Cricket Club (1950–1976) and England (1954–1975). Universally known as Colin Cowdrey, he "delighted crowds throughout the world with his style and elegance",Graveney, p. 54 and was the first cricketer to play 100 Test matches, celebrating the occasion with 104 against Australia in 1968. In all he played 114 Tests, making 7,624 runs at an average of 44.06, overtaking Wally Hammond as the most prolific Test batsman, and taking 120 catches as a fielder, breaking another Hammond record. Marylebone Cricket Club
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) is a cricket club founded in 1787 and based since 1814 at Lord's Cricket Ground, which it owns, in St John's Wood, London. The club was formerly the governing body of cricket retaining considerable global influence. In 1788, the MCC took responsibility for the laws of cricket, issuing a revised version that year. Eddie Barlow
Edgar John Barlow (12 August 1940 – 30 December 2005) was a South African cricketer (an all rounder). Barlow was born in Pretoria, Transvaal, South Africa, and played first-class cricket for Transvaal and Eastern Province from 1959–60 to 1967–68 before moving to Western Province for the seasons from 1968–69 to 1980–81. During this time he also played three seasons with Derbyshire in the English County Championship from 1976 – 1978. He completed his first-class career in Boland in 1982–83. Barlow was named as one of the six ''South African Cricket Annual'' players of the year in 1962. Kardinia Park is a major public park located in South Geelong, Victoria. Victorian Premier Cricket
Victorian Premier Cricket is a club cricket competition in the state of Victoria administered by Cricket Victoria. Each club fields four teams (firsts through to fourths) of adult players and usually play on weekends and public holidays. Matches are played on turf wickets under limited-time rules, with most results being decided on a first-innings basis. Outstanding players in the competition are selected to play for the Victorian Bushrangers at first-class and List A level, in the Sheffield Shield and Marsh One Day Cup competitions respectively. The competition commenced in the 1906–07 season when it was known as "District cricket", and was renamed in 1990. The Richmond Cricket Club is an Australian cricket club based in Glen Waverley in the south-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Victoria. The club plays in the Victorian Premier Cricket Association. Founded in 1854, the Richmond Cricket Club home ground was for most of its history the Richmond Cricket Ground (better known as the Punt Road Oval), a few hundred metres to the east of the Melbourne Cricket Ground. It was a founding member of the Victorian District/Premier Cricket competition in 1906/07. In 2011, the club moved its home base from Richmond to Central Reserve in Glen Waverley. It continued to be known as Richmond until the 2012/13 season.
