Gareth Thomas (English Politician)
Gareth Richard Thomas (born 15 July 1967) is a British politician who has served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Harrow West since 1997. A member of Labour and Co-operative, he held the position of Minister of State at the Department for International Development from 2008 to 2010. Following the 2010 general election, Thomas joined the shadow frontbench team. Thomas is currently Shadow Minister for Trade Policy under the leadership of Keir Starmer. He served as Chair of the Co-operative Party from 2001 until 2019. Thomas sought to become the Labour Party's candidate in the 2016 election for Mayor of London, but came last of the six candidates in the ballot. Labour and Co-operative Party (often abbreviated Labour Co-op; cy, Llafur a'r Blaid Gydweithredol) is a description used by candidates in United Kingdom elections who stand on behalf of both the Labour Party and the Co-operative Party. Candidates contest elections under an electoral alliance between the two parties, that was first agreed in 1927. This agreement recognises the independence of the two parties and commits them to not standing against each other in elections. Harrow () is a large town in Greater London, England, and serves as the principal settlement of the London Borough of Harrow. Lying about north-west of Charing Cross and south of Watford, the entire town including its localities had a population of 149,246 at the 2011 census, whereas the wider borough (which also contains Pinner and Stanmore) had a population of 250,149. Robert Gurth Hughes
Robert Gurth Hughes (born 14 July 1951) is a British Conservative Party politician from 1980–1997 and Government Minister in the 1990s. Parliamentary career Hughes was unsuccessful as a candidate for Stepney and Poplar in the 1979 general election. In 1980 Hughes was elected to the Greater London Council representing Croydon Central, serving until 1986. He was the Conservative candidate in the 1983 Bermondsey by-election and contested that constituency's successor seat of Southwark and Bermondsey at the 1983 general election. Harrow West is a constituency in Greater London created in 1945 and represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament. The Department for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform (BERR) was a United Kingdom government department.
