Garbancito De La Mancha
''Garbancito de la Mancha'' is a Spanish animation, Spanish animated film directed by José María Blay and Arturo Moreno (cartoonist), Arturo Moreno. Released in 1945, it is the first animated feature film produced in Spain, the first traditional animation, cel-animated feature film produced in Europe, and the first animated feature film produced in color outside of the United States. It is inspired by the story of Don Quijote. Synopsis Garbancito is an orphan whose friends, Kiriqui and Chirili, are kidnapped by the giant Caramanca. To rescue his friends, Garbancito is assisted by a goat named Peregrina, his Fairy Godmother, and an enchanted sword. In 2019 and 2020 8 of the 10 original dufay reels were discovered at two separate yard sales by collector David Bull, who contacted Spain and returned the reels to them at for the small sum of €5,200, which just recovered what he had invested in storage and research. Patufet (, also known as '' Garbancito'' in Spanish) is the main character of one of the most famous folktales of Catalan tradition. It is related to the stories of Tom Thumb, Little Thumb or Thumbling (Catalan: Polzet; Spanish: ''Pulgarcito''). Description Patufet is usually represented as a very small child the size of a rice grain or a little garbanzo bean, wearing a big red barretina so that his parents can better spot him around the place. Arturo Moreno (cartoonist)
Arturo Moreno (10 May 1909 – 25 June 1993) was a Spanish cartoonist, comics artist and animator. His family moved to Barcelona when he was eight. Moreno began working as a professional artist in the 1920s, contributing to a satirical magazine, ''Pulgarcito (Spain), Pulgarcito''. In 1942, Moreno founded Diarmo Films with José María Arola. "Diarmo" is a portmanteau of "Dibujos animados Arola y Moreno" (Spanish for "Arola and Moreno Animations"). In 1948, he emigrated to Caracas, Venezuela and worked for the Venezuelan Ministry of Education on ''Tricolor'', an educational children's magazine, as well as advertising spots.
