Gao Yang (born 1 March 1993) is a Chinese athlete specialising in the shot put The shot put is a track and field event involving "putting" (throwing) a heavy spherical ball—the ''shot''—as far as possible. The shot put competition for men has been a part of the modern Olympics since their revival in 1896, and women's .... She finished fifth at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing. In addition she won several medals on continental level and the silver at the 2012 World Junior Championships. Her personal bests in the event are 19.20 metres outdoors (Neubrandenburg 2016) and 18.77 metres indoors (Birmingham 2018). 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Women's Shot Put
The women's shot put at the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on March 19, 2016. That Valerie Adams took the lead in the first round was not a surprise. Over the previous decade, the only woman to defeat Adams in a major international competition, turned out to be a serial drug cheat. What might have been foretelling was that the lead was not already insurmountable. In the second round, Michelle Carter took the lead, which she solidified in the third round, even though Adams hit her best throw of the competition in that round. Adams may not be back to 100% after the multiple surgeries which caused her absence in Beijing, her best more than a meter short of where she would normally be throwing. But Carter was challenged, when Anita Márton threw her National Record 19.33 on her final attempt. 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Women's Shot Put
The women's shot put at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on 2 March 2018. Summary No qualifying round was needed, so all entrants were finalists. In the first round Danniel Thomas-Dodd took the lead with an 18.92m. Paulina Guba and Gao Yang held the next two positions. Thomas-Dodd improved slightly in the second round but was displaced by the next thrower, Gong Lijiao with an 18.98m. Gao also improved with her best of the day 18.77m. In a vulnerable fifth position after two rounds, Anita Márton saw no challenge to remaining in the competition, then let loose a 19.48m to leapfrog into the lead. Thomas-Dodd wasn't able to answer that, but as the next to step into the ring, she did throw her best of the day 19.22m, good enough to improve her own Jamaican national record and her hold on silver. 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships
The 17th IAAF World Indoor Championships was held from 1 to 4 March 2018 in Birmingham, United Kingdom. This was the city's second hosting of the event as it previously did so in 2003. Bidding process Birmingham bid for the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships as well as the 2018 event. Portland was selected unanimously to host the 2016 event with Birmingham being the only other bidder. With Portland then out of the running for the 2018 event Birmingham was selected as the host of the 2018 event. The reason Portland was selected for 2016 and Birmingham for 2018 is that the IAAF wanted more time between events in the UK with London hosting the 2012 Summer Olympics as well as the 2017 World Championships in Athletics along with Cardiff hosting the 2016 IAAF World Half Marathon Championships. The women's shot put at the 2017 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Olympic Stadium on . Summary The entire final was conducted in rainy conditions. Five throws in, Gong Lijiao took the early lead with a throw of 19.16 metres. Michelle Carter moved into second with 18.82 metres. Near the beginning of the second round, Anita Márton edged ahead with 18.89 metres, Gong improved to 19.35 metres, then Carter improved to 18.86 metres. In the third round, Carter improved to 19.14 metres to go back to second position. The leader board stayed that way until the fifth round when Gong improved to a winning 19.94 metres.
