Gang Of Çole
Gang of Çole ( or ''Banda e Zani Çaushit'') was an Albanian criminal group that operated in the city of Vlora during 1997–2001. The peak of their criminal activity was during March–June 1997, when anarchy reigned in the South. Gang members were charged with the creation of the criminal group, possession of military vehicles, homicides, kidnappings, giving penitence, destruction of state institutions, drug trafficking. Gang activity The gang was created by Myrteza Çaushi also known as Zani, the strongman of Vlora (), in March 1997. The ''Gang of Çole'' is named after the Çole neighborhood in Vlorë. The group had sixteen members, most already with criminal records. Myrteza Çaushi was imprisoned in a high security prison in Greece after being convicted of serious criminal offences. Vlorë ( , ; sq-definite, Vlora) is the third most populous city of the Republic of Albania and seat of Vlorë County and Vlorë Municipality. Gang Of Pusi I Mezinit
Gang of Pusi i Mezinit () was a criminal group with activities throughout southern Albania. Origin of the members of this band was from across the south of the country. Most of them had been imprisoned during the communist regime for crimes. Called by his nickname "The strongest of the South", this band had as main rival Coles gang led by Zani Çaushi. Banda was the well to Brother ardent supporter of the Democratic Party, and apparently this caused even their elimination. Tepelenë
Tepelenë ( sq-definite, Tepelena) is a city and a municipality in Gjirokastër County, in the south of Albania. The town is located on the left bank of the Vjosa River, about three kilometres downstream from its union with the Drino. Until the abolition of Districts of Albania, Districts in 2000, Tepelenë was the seat of the Tepelenë District. Otranto Tragedy
The Tragedy of Otranto took place on 28 March 1997 when the Albanian ship ''Kateri i Radës'' sank in a collision with the Italian naval vessel ''Sibilla'' in the Strait of Otranto and at least 84 Albanians, aged 3 months to 69 years, lost their lives. The emigrants had been part of a large migration of Albanians to Italy following a popular uprising, known as the Albanian Civil War, that began after the collapse of several large-scale pyramid schemes. In order to prevent the unauthorized entry of migrants into Italy, the Italian Navy set up a procedure to board Albanian vessels whenever encountered, implementing a ''de facto'' blockade. In proceeding to carry out a boarding, the Italian vessel ''Sibilla'' collided with ''Kater i Radës'' and capsized it, resulting in the Albanian deaths. The Albanian Civil War in 1997 was sparked by pyramid scheme failures in Albania soon after its transition to a market economy. The government was toppled and more than 2,000 people were killed.
