Gamal Abdel Nasser Hussein, . (15 January 1918 – 28 September 1970) was an Egyptian politician who served as the second president of Egypt from 1954 until his death in 1970. Nasser led the Egyptian revolution of 1952 and introduced far-reaching land reforms the following year. Following a 1954 attempt on his life by a Muslim Brotherhood member, he cracked down on the organization, put President Mohamed Naguib under house arrest and assumed executive office. He was formally elected president in June 1956. Nasser's popularity in Egypt and the Arab world skyrocketed after his nationalization of the Suez Canal Company and his political victory in the subsequent Suez Crisis, known in Egypt as the ''Tripartite Aggression''. Calls for pan-Arab unity under his leadership increased, culminating with the formation of the United Arab Republic with Syria from 1958 to 1961. Gamal Abdel Nasser Mosque () is a mosque in Cairo. The mosque is known for containing the mausoleum of Gamal Abdel Nasser. It is located in El Qobbah district and as such, it is often referred to as "El-Qobbah Mosque". It is situated close to the building of the Ministry of Defence and Military Production, and the campus of Ain Shams University. Construction of the mosque begun in 1962, with the donation of the citizens of El Qobbah. In 1965, Nasser ordered the completion of the construction by financing the cost and supervising the design, which employs the modern Arabic architectural style. The construction cost reached 300,000 Egyptian pounds. Tobruk International Airport is an airport serving the Mediterranean port city of Tobruk, capital of the Butnan District of Libya. The airport is south of Tobruk, at the town of Al Adm. History The airport was previously named Gamal Abdel Nasser Airport, after the president of the former United Arab Republic. The airport was officially opened as Tobruk International Airport on 29 April 2013. The oldest airport in Libya, it had previously offered only internal flights. The first international passenger flight was to Alexandria, Egypt, operated by Libyan Airlines. The airport operates domestic flights to Benghazi and Tripoli. Gamal Abdel Nasser Airbase () is a Libyan Air Force ( ar, القوات الجوية الليبية, translit=al-Quwwāt al-Ǧawwiyya al-Lībiyya, Berber: Adwas Alibyan Ujnna) base, located about 16 km south of Tobruk. It is believed to once have had about 60 or 70 Mirage F.1EDs aircraft assigned. Prior to 31 March 1970, the airfield was known as Royal Air Force Station El Adem ( after the nearby settlement al Adm), and used by the RAF primarily as a staging post. Before World War II, it had been an Italian Air Force airfield. Jamal Abdel Nasser Mosque ( ar, مسجد جمال عبد الناصر ''Masjid Jamal 'Abd an-Nasser'') is the largest mosque in al-Bireh, West Bank, State of Palestine, Palestine. On March 14, 2002, the Israel Defense Forces, Israeli Army (IDF) took over the mosque and used its minaret for sniping, killing four Palestinians. On September 22, 2007, dozens of wives of Hamas-affiliated political prisoners and other female Hamas members marched from the Jamal Abdel Nasser Mosque to Al-Manara Square in protest of what they saw as the politically motivated detentions of their relatives by the Palestinian Authority (PA).
