Galway F.C.
Galway United Football Club () is an Irish professional football club based in Galway. They play in the League of Ireland Premier Division following promotion from the First Division in 2023. They were founded as Galway Rovers F.C. during the 1930s. They made their League of Ireland debut in 1977–78 and changed their name to Galway United in 1981–82. After suffering financial difficulties, the club dropped out of the League of Ireland after the 2011 season but in 2014 Galway United returned initially playing as Galway F.C. for a season. Like other sports teams from the county, Galway United are nicknamed "The Tribesmen", after the 14 "tribes" of Galway, the merchant families that established the city. John Caulfield (Irish Footballer)
John Caulfield (born 11 October 1964) is an Irish association football, football coach and former player who is the manager of Galway United F.C., Galway United. Caulfield spent the majority of his playing career at Cork City F.C., Cork City and was a member of the team that won the 1992–93 League of Ireland Premier Division. He was also the League of Ireland Premier Division Top Scorer in both 1991–92 League of Ireland Premier Division, 1991–92 and 1994–95 League of Ireland Premier Division, 1994–95. As a manager, Caulfield has won the 2016 FAI Cup, 2017 FAI Cup and 2017 League of Ireland Premier Division with Cork City. Caulfield has also played Gaelic football and represented both Roscommon GAA, Roscommon and Cork GAA, Cork at inter-county level, winning an All-Ireland Junior Football Championship, All-Ireland title with the latter. Connacht Junior Cup (association Football)
The Connacht Junior Cup or Connaught Junior Cup is a cup competition organised by the Connacht Football Association for junior association football clubs. In the seasons when there has been no active Connacht Senior League or Connacht Senior Cup, this junior cup competition has effectively been the top level competition for non-League of Ireland clubs affiliated to the CFA. As a result, it is often simply just referred to as the Connacht Cup or Connaught Cup. The inaugural winners were Galway Town. Lansdowne Road
Lansdowne Road Stadium (, ) was a stadium in Dublin owned by the Irish Rugby Football Union (IRFU) that was primarily used for rugby union and association football matches. The stadium was demolished in 2007 to make way for the Aviva Stadium on the same site, which opened in 2010. The stadium took its name from the adjacent street, Lansdowne Road. Location The stadium was situated in the neighbourhood of Ballsbridge in the city's Dublin 4 area. The stadium had convenient public transport links as the Lansdowne Road station of the Dublin Area Rapid Transit rail system is adjacent to the site and passed directly underneath the West Stand. Paul McGee (footballer Born 1954)
Paul Gerard McGee (born 19 June 1954) is an Irish former footballer who played as a forward. Career McGee was born in Sligo, and started his career with Sligo Rovers, making his debut at 15 years of age on 15 November 1970. While at Finn Harps he won the FAI Cup in 1974. He then rejoined his home town club Sligo Rovers winning the League of Ireland championship in 1977. After the league success he was purchased by Queens Park Rangers in November 1977. In his Ireland career, he scored 4 goals in 15 matches and also won 10 youth caps and 2 U21 caps. In January 1977 he played for the League of Ireland XI team against Italian League B which included Gaetano Scirea. He had 6 different spells during his career playing for Sligo. Eamonn "Chick" Deacy (1 October 1958 – 13 February 2012) was a professional footballer from Galway, Ireland. Career Sligo Rovers After a trial at Clyde Deacy made an impressive League of Ireland debut for Sligo Rovers away to Shelbourne at Harold's Cross Stadium on 14 December 1975. His only win in Sligo's colours came at Glenmalure Park on 4 January 1976. The next month he faced Geoff Hurst at Turners Cross. Galway Rovers F.C. His debut game for his home town club, then Galway Rovers F.C., was in the FAI League Cup on 5 September 1976. Deacy made his debut for Limerick on 28 November 1976 at Flower Lodge.
