Galleria Civica D'Arte Moderna E Contemporanea Di Latina
The Galleria Civica d'Arte Moderna e Contemporanea di Latina or The Modern and Contemporary Civic Gallery in Latina, in the Region of Lazio, is an Italian Pinacoteca (Paintings Museum). It was instituted in 1937 as Littoria Pinacoteca (Antic Latina’s name) and its original centre was realised thanks to works donated by various artists participating at the XX Venice Biennale and at the II Roman Quadriennale. During the war, and after the September 8th armistice in 1943, most of the collection was lost. In December 1994, with those few paintings left together with those recovered by Carabinieri Force, the Gallery reopened to the public at the Palace of Culture in Latina In 1996 began the acquisition process that expanded the initial chronological boundary, connecting the existing collection to contemporary art, and enriching the collection of several hundred paintings. Aligi Sassu (17 July 1912 – 17 July 2000) was an Italian painter and sculptor. Biography Aligi Sassu was born in Milan, Lombardy. He was the son of Lina Pedretti (from Parma, Emilia) and Antonio Sassu (from Sassari, Sardinia). His father Antonio was one of the founders of the Italian Socialist Party (Partito Socialista Italiano) in Sassari in 1894, and had moved to Milan in 1896, where he married Pedretti in 1911. At the beginning of the 1920s, the Sassu family moved back to Sardinia to Thiesi, where Antonio opened a shop. Achille Vertunni
Achille Vertunni (Naples, March 1826 –1897) was an Italian painter. Biography Vertunni was a Neapolitan nobleman who initially studied law under Roberto Savarese, although his family had intended for him to become an architect, and enrolled him to study mathematics under Ferdinando de Luca. Vertunni however gravitated towards the visual arts, causing a rift with his father, who would not countenance his son working as a penniless artist and eventually disinherited Achille. He enrolled to study landscape painting under Salvatore Fergola, and after just eight months went on to serve his first apprenticeship under the historical painter Giuseppe Bonolis, and eventually with Francesco De Sanctis. Ernesto Treccani
Ernesto Treccani (Milan, 26 August 1920 – Milan, 27 November 2009) was a visual artist, writer and political activist. Biography Treccani was born in Milan. He joined very early on the art avant-garde groups and movements opposed to Fascist culture. At only 18 he founded and edited the magazine Corrente di Vita, and exhibited his work at Galleria Bottega di Corrente with Renato Birolli, Renato Guttuso, Giuseppe Migneco, Aligi Sassu and later at Galleria della Spiga with Bruno Cassinari and Ennio Morlotti. Arturo Tosi (1871–1956) was an Italian painter known best for his landscapes. Biography He was born in Busto Arsizio (Varese). He moved to Milan in 1882 and attended the school of nude studies at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts from 1890 to 1891. He made his debut at the 1st Esposizione Triennale di Belle Arti in 1891 and attracted the attention of Vittore Grubicy, who steered him towards the late 19th-century Lombard tradition. His father – Michele Marzulli, who was also a poet and writer – and his mother Rosa Tosches were skilled painters.
