The Gaisano family () is a Chinese Filipino family prominent in the Philippine retail industry particularly in Visayas and Mindanao. History The family's retail business began during the 1970s, when a shop-restaurant was established by Doña Modesta Singson-Gaisano with husband, Don Jose Sy Gaisano, located at the ground floor in a rented house in Colon, Cebu. The establishment later became known as White Gold Super Store. Sergio Osmeña
Sergio Osmeña Sr. (, ; 9 September 1878 – 19 October 1961) was a Filipino lawyer and politician who served as the fourth president of the Philippines from 1944 to 1946. He was vice president under Manuel L. Quezon. Upon Quezon's sudden death in 1944, Osmeña succeeded him at age 65, becoming the oldest person to assume the Philippine presidency until Rodrigo Duterte took office in 2016 at age 71. A founder of the Nacionalista Party, Osmeña was also the first Visayan to become president. Gotianun Sr. and his wife, Mercedes Gotianun, as a used-car financing company. Andrew Lo Gotianun Sr. (; November 24, 1927 – March 10, 2016) was a Filipino businessman and investor. He was best known for running Filinvest Development Corporation, a major Filipino conglomerate which owns most of Filinvest Land, Inc. and East West Banking Corporation. Gaisano Capital is a chain of malls and supermarkets owned by Edmund S. Gaisano Sr., the second son of Henry S. Gaisano Sr. In the 1970s, he had his own construction business independent of his relatives. One of his projects was to construct a building (which was to be named the Henry Gaisano Building after his father, one of Doña Modesta's sons) located along Leon Kilat and Colon streets in Cebu City which was to be leased as a supermarket by his relatives. When the supermarket venture failed, Edmund Gaisano Sr. decided to open his own supermarket. This supermarket became the first Gaisano Capital supermarket and is presently known as Gaisano Capital South.
